Well spotted with Ioane's position.  Is he going to be able to hold onto a wing position when players are back from injury?  I'm not so sure.

I'm glad they've given Parker the call up.  He was impressive for the Chiefs this year, in a stacked loosie department.

There's a clear strategy from the selectors with the forwards - and that's size.  Size, but without sacrificing work rate and mobility.  It began last year with Williams and Tosi.  Now there's Holland's selection, Vaa'i playing blindside and Parker's call up all clearly part of the plan.  If we're going to beat the Boks, with loosies like PSDT, then we'll need to fight fire with fire.  I can't wait.

It does seem like a pretty big squad though.  With no easy games in the Championship, realistically a number of these players aren't going to get any game time at all.  However, I guess getting players in the environment is good for their development and let's the coaches get a better look at them.

There was some great Rugby played in the NPC over the last few days.

Auckland made Canterbury really work for their win.

Interesting to hear Andy Ellis commentating. He was a fraction repetitive, but I imagine he will settle down. He has some interesting insights. Also Bryn Hall who I enjoy listening to.

Faingaʻanuku was class for Tasman. I wonder if the AB's selectors are watching him for a 2025 return to the Black Jersey. It could be the slower pace of the NPC but he looked properly quick.

Credit where credit is due, it was an excellent Argentinian performance.

So who is NZ’s number 5 halfback for them to call up?

It wasn't like we were blown off the park by a massively better team though. Argentina were still pinged for offsides and clearouts just like we were.

#1 Roigard, #2 Hotham and probably #3 Ratima are out, but at least one should be available for the Springboks in a fortnight. 🤞

They keep playing #6 Christie. They took #4 Preston to Argentina but didn't use him at all.

I'd guess Fakatava would be next cab off the rank and should be #5?

Preston is also injured.

I really do not rate Christie and calling him a defensive halfback is surely a lol joke given last week he missed all but 1 tackle he made, but it was his best performance in black probably ever.

It was a very fired up Argentina and we did not match their physicality, just as was the reverse last week.

There was a long list of players who had a pretty poor night.

Reece (excluding his yellow) Sititi, Christie, Parker, Savea, Beauden (excluding his goal kicking) were very decent.

Perhaps if Reiko can't catch a ball or score tries in center or wing we could invest another 5 years trying him in the tight 5 ?

So 2 rounds in, every team has won and lost 1 game.

Reece had one of his worst hit outs ever in a black jersey. Understandably you have focussed in on Christie first. We all deal with disappointment differently I guess.

It's hard to know where to start with all the deficiencies. Discipline, kicking, aerial game were all woeful.  Although credit to Argie, who are a class outfit these days.

I've said for ages that we need wings that are good in the air.  At least one 'second fullback' type player.  Reece has a high workrate and some elusive running, but IMO he's not a test wing.  He went absolutely missing with the high balls.  Ioane as well.  Clarke has been our best aerial wing for some time.  Not sure on his injury status.  Personally, I'd play Love on the right wing and maybe Carter or Narawa on the left.  That may be too drastic a change going into a Boks test now though.

Our kicking game (can you even call it that) was woeful again.  Barrett isn't great and we definitely missed Roigard's box kicking.  DMac isn't the answer.  I think we're now almost in a holding pattern until Mounga is eligible again - or until they have an opportunity to give Love some game time there.

Moving on from the AB's, how good was it seeing the mighty Taniwha topple Auckland, then the Turbo's clean up Wellington? They may not come close to winning the NPC, but it's good to see the smaller provinces are capable of toppling the big boys on their day.

And even more importantly, the Shield coming home to Waikato.

Nice troll attempt. What exactly was your issue with Reece this time?

Sadly, it seems you didn't read my comments properly, despite not rating Christie, I actually said it was one of his best games in black.
