For me the tyre compounds never really added much - just let them use the same tyres and come up with different strategies.

I feel like bringing back refueling, a single compound of tyre and actually making the design changes they propose (instead of delay after delay and then implementing a water-down version of their proposals) as well as accepting the hybrid era has not been as cost-effective as they would like and going back to the small block V8s would be a huge boost to the sport. But it doesn't look like they could change even if they wanted to.

Agree. Liberty was supposed to push forward, engage the fans. Well, I huess we can watch boring F1 on a fancy 4k app now.

You can have the traditoinal F1 if you left it alone. They created a new reg, the hybrid car. One team nailed it, so they win every race apart from a few they forgot to win. Eventually after was it 5 years, Ferrari and RBR got close enough. The next 5 years could have been nail biting. But they change the regs again

Easy to sort out tyre. Tyre is lasting because they don't push hard. They don't push hard because fuel is limited.

Solution - Remove fuel limit and Allow refueling.

Oh but the planet ... yeah nothing else in F1 actually hurts the planet ... it's the fuel burn rate.

I want to see removing all the aero bits. Race on raw power and skill alone.

They made the last seasons tyres harder

Remove fuel limit I'd go with that, but if you have soft tyres where you must change them, 20 lap maximum, you can forego fuel stops, they just aremnt limited to an amount, they can fuel low for lap time or fuel high to avoud fuel saving. The fastest race time will be the fastest car, fuel saving will hurt. You can gamble on a safety car though

Refuelling is not going to happen, it's too dangerous. When refuelling was allowed, we saw a few fires, but fortunately nothing too serious. Can you imagine the uproar if a decent fire got away and directly affected the VVIP lounges often straight above the pit garages 😱

If F1 wanted to bring refuelling back, I think they'd have to largely rebuild pit lanes, making each garage a completely separate fire cell, make sure there's no through-breezes to fan the flames, fit sprinklers, etc.

And then there was the rule dodging: one F1 team at least was running a seriously underweight car, and used to pour in 25kg of lead shot with the last 'refuel' stop of a race; I've also heard rumours of cars with fire extinguisher bottles filled with fuel rather than extinguisher liquid - that may have been in CART / Indycars; you'd get teams that 'accidentally' over-pressured their refuelling rigs and/or were running nozzles just a teeny weeny bit larger diameter than allowed - anything to get fuel in a bit faster.

Lol I've been on at GZ for years over this. There's a button to insert a picture, so why are we reduced to BBCode to insert a video link.

FYI you have to type youtube in square brackets, insert the video link code (bit at the end of the youtube url after the v= so like WUo8TnHNHYM), and then right /youtube again in square brackets afterwards, and all with no spaces.

eg [ youtube ] WUo8TnHNHYM [ / youtube ]

Bottom line, there should be a direct insert button for this.

Me, its a great idea to optimise tyres, by levelling the toe

Its legal as its a steering device, but it doesn't steer the car so what's with that? Its a device to alter balance, or if you believe others it helps aero. What if the toe adjustment was a stand alone lever, is that legal? It appears not

I think its quite ingenious and incredibly complex and will be used to push the red soft tyres further in to the race; merc could easily have used the yellows given their pace advantage so I suspect it will work really well on tyre deg.

Clearly though its a loophole, similar to Brawns double defuser effort from 2009; technically and legally allowed but dubious when put in to context.. however the fact that merc spent 2 years working on it suggests its quite hard to nail down and fix in the chassis without adding additional pointless weight.

A lever would not likely be legal as it wouldn't be part of the steering system.. hence the loop hole that Merc helped close for next season.

Anyway, interesting tactical choices coming, firmly think that Hamilton will get past Bottas during the race and Bottas/Verstappen will be close due to Bottas' race pace. Ferrari will be fighting McLaren and Racing Point I think for the 3rd place team.

Also wonder whether Verstappen may get mugged on the start with the red tyres around him of Albion and the pink panthers/McLaren as the red tyre is faster of the line and pink panther engine is good for torque...

Agree where I bolded, funny thing is the device doesnt steer lol. Crazy stuff

Should be a fun race, after 6 years we know who wins every race this year and the next barring issues, so thats fine, the rest are closer, that will be fun.

Lando really did have a cool head on for most of it, and that impressed me most. To win you first have to finish, and he treaded softly around a few possible lunge type overtake opportunities.

DAS is banned for next year, so just goes down in history as a gimmick.
