The 2x missed tackles that lead to Puma trys!!! A theme carried forward from this season. Unfortunate pass to fumble the try as well but that was happening all over the park.

joker97: the DC of old would have kicked tactically to gain ground. didn't see any, well didn't see him do anything to be honest other than kick easy penalties. didn't even attempt longer distance (40-45m) ones

Not sure where you were looking at then. I saw plenty of DC. No point in kicking for the sake of it.

You could be right. I was trying to make coffee, fast forwards the scrum resets, and "wow" at the match (sent a shiver down my spine when CS got a yellow and I was sure they were going to scrum us to the ground from right in front of the posts. Japan would have. instead ... they didn't get ANY advantage from 15 vs 13!)

I'm waiting to see the stats, there seemed a lot of missed tackles. Defense has been our strongest skill traditionally, but I guess as we have become more mobile and the game moves faster, fundamentally it has to have a consequence somewhere, but yes agreed, he didn't play as defensively, but I thought he was pretty good offensively.

Hmm, yea just watched the highlights on youtube and he had good carries especially second half.  One thing the highlights do show is that Barnes will allow a team to consistently slow the ruck ball as long as its far enough away from the scoring line (at which point he will Yellow card).

The penalty count in that regard for them was prolific, and means yes 3 points but then the loss of territory and potential of a higher scoring opportunity.  Ths wouldnt be such a big* deal if the AB's could dominate possession, but against Argentina, this isnt possible.  It has to be a fair and comparable contest, and in that regard I think we were hard done by.

We didn't get any from their carding either! I have been concerned for a few years that we don't capitalize on our opponents cards a little more than we do.

Stats:

Kieran Read

Read was a force in every category, having a storming game against a physical Pumas pack. His attacking input was excellent, gaining 54 metres on 13 carries, beating three defenders, making two clean breaks and throwing six offloads.

The rest of his performance was even stronger, making 10 tackles, winning thee turnovers at the breakdown without giving away a penalty, and being the chief lineout recipient with eight lineouts won.

From the RWC 2015 App.
NZ made 100 tackles and missed 18, Argentina made 133 and missed 36.
No tight heads.
No lineout steals.
Territory NZ 69% Arg 31% (80/20 in last 10 minutes)

I could keep writing but it's probably quicker to just go on the RWC site and check it out.

Edit: also not quite sure what itxtme meant by trys (sic), I only saw one Argentinean try.

I see there is quite bit of criticism of the ABs on Stuff etc after today's game.

Personally I think: -
Argentina played out of their skin and off their feet.
You know the other team is playing hard when Retallick appears to have a quiet game
The ABs played OK, but lacked finishing touches.
The ABs dropped 2 certain and two probable tries line (i.e 10 -28 points were butchered).
ABs poor recovery of kicks was a concern.
McCaw thoroughly deserved to be sent off (Sorry Richie but that was dumb)
Smith didn't. I'm not even convinced that was a penalty.  He was on his feet and seemed to join the ruck correctly.
The camera work so far in the matches I have sen has been pretty.

Incidentally, has anyone else downloaded the official RWC 2015 Android app? It is really slooooow on my Samsung tablet, just wondering how others have found it?

Yah the quality of the picture on sky has been outstanding. I have tried to play a few games via the ITV app and it's rubbish (Sound is good). I can't find a way to get it to HD, but other than that...
