I received an email overnight from Air NZ Airpoints advising that their agreement with BNZ was ending.  No more Airpoints dollars on Globalplus credit cards as from the end of April.

Shame that, most of my everyday purchases go on that card, effectively this means a 1% increase in my day-to-day expenses.

I'll see if BNZ intend to come up whit some alternative loyalty programme, but it may be time to start shopping for a new credit card.

This was big news when it was announced yesterday. Based on the many comments I saw yesterday there are a lot of unhappy BNZ customers out there.

The strange thing about so many people ranting about the issue though is how easy it is to simply change credit card providers. Based on some people's comments you'd think they were trapped as BNZ customers and had no other option..

No need to shop for new credit card. Kiwibank is the natural best. Or Westpac. Flip a coin.

Switching providers is easy if you have a list of your outgoing payments. BNZ offers are not really stellar to begin with anyway. Westpac is a bit premature with the annoucement as they couldn't tell me how migration to the new airpoints cards work (even from within westpac card range on the same tier)

Seems to be no love for switching to ANZ CC's? Realise ANZ isn't always that popular on here but we managed to get an ANZ Platinum Airpoints Visa with no annual fee's without too much difficulty from ANZ. Always worth shopping around.

I pay mine off in full every month so fortunately balance transfer is not something I need to consider.  I'm struggling to find an equivalent to the GlobalPlus Gold though, by way of fees, free travel insurance and rewards per dollar spent.  None of the other banks offering airpoints seem to have a gold equivalent, which means having to go platinum with significantly higher fees.

Premium (platinum or titanium) is the new gold...

Most banks have migrated their gold card holders to a platinum or similar, whilst offering "gold" cards to standard card holders.

Generally speaking, if you're a gold card holder, you should be able to negotiate for a fee reduction on a platinum card with far better rewards.

The thing you have to remember is that if you want rewards, someone has to pay for them...that someone will be a combination of you and the merchants.

EDIT: atrocious spelling!

Personally, I have no faith in ANZ Credit Cards due to past experiences. They decided to crucify me to assist with a transaction dispute. The Westpac card range might be the incentive to cut ANZ completely

ANZ's offering is the worst out there in terms of points earn, and some catches in the travel insurance (if you're relying on that) such as their rental car clause.

I spoke to an ANZ card manager about this last year and had to give him a lot of credit for being completely honest and admitting they weren't likely to make any changes, were happy with their position as not having the most competitive offering, and that they really aren't that interested in high value customers who racked up large credit card expenditure and paid this off each money because  customers like that aren't profitable.

I got my annual fee waived for a year, but will probably review my choice of card when I have to start paying again.

MC/VISA yes. Not quite true if you have an AMEX platinum charge card :)

Also BNZ is offering a cash rebate for the same value as you would have got for airpoints (until they come up with something "better") They also said if I cancelled the would refund any account fees. Thing I liked about the BNZ card was the purchase protection. Only the Westpac World one offers this as far as I can see.

You can have your banking with one bank and a credit card from another. Personally I use ASB for credit card, at the platinum level you basically get 1% cash back.
