I'm heading to Melbourne for five days for some training.

What are the best deals for a prepay sim with as much data as possible. Calls aren't important.

looks like the Telstra $10 Prepaid Plus SIM Starter Kit-Mobile is the best bet? 6 gig of data for $10

Does anyone know if you can pick them up at the airport?

I'm heading to Melbourne tomorrow for a week and as my previous Aus prepay sim was disconnected (less that 2 weeks ago) I was looking at options too.

I always go Telstra when over there (best speed coverage I've found) and that pack looks like the best deal. I usually get a pre-paid extra plan, but was thinking of the day2day plan this time.

There isnt a T-shop at Melbourne airport, but last time i was there there was a news agent in the Qantas terminal that sells sims. It was pretty close to the international end.

Are you lot on VF On Account? If so, just use the $5 a day and you get to use your NZ plan.

I'm in Sydney now. We (4 of us together) bought assorted Sims at the airport. I got $40 Vodafone deal on special for $30, 9gb data & 3.5gb bonus, unlimited local calls and texts, but would cost $$$ if I needed to call NZ. If you need to call/text home, then the assorted providers have other options. Swings and roundabouts depending on what you need. There are booths at the airports. Staff seem to be helpful, will set up and check sim on your phone. You get same deals in stores which are everywhere. You need to show your passport or Aussie drivers license as ID.

Won't need calls home as my wife can call me free. It's more for data for emails, maps and surfing. Also so I don't get charged for receiving calls

Was recently in Australia for a week. I got an Optus sim (they gave it to me for free in the store) and used their $2/day plan. That gave me 1GB data a day and a bunch of call time and sms per day. It was mostly the data I was after. Had no problem with coverage (we were in the Gold Coast).

It did mean I ended up with an Aus number, however, this was a family holiday so the significant others likely to call me were there too anyway.

For a short trip, this was by far the cheapest way we found that offered a (very) good amount of data. If you're going for a couple of weeks or more then a month plan would probably be better.

Meh...looks like its dropped to 500MB/day. Shame - still reasonable. Here's the plan: http://www.optus.com.au/shop/mobile/prepaid/plans#datatab3 Forgot to mention it included Spotify/Google Music/iHeart Radio streaming for free (which I thought was pretty good too).
