My airpoints are precisely zero. I think the last time I hopped on a plane was 2010.

robjg63: I am actually quite miffed with their air dollars.
I foolishly thought you could use them like money.
I didnt realise you cant use them unless they cover the whole of a flight.
So you can have (say) $300 airpoints and book a$310 flight - but you cant use your air dollars because it doesnt cover the whole flight.
I foolishly figured I could use the air dollars and pay the balance.

I guess thats the thing with rewards schemes - they want to appear to give you something that you might not be able to use....

you can buy airpoints dollars, dollar for dollar. So you could buy 10 airpoints for $10nzd then book the flight.

Was hoping to see some hard core balances!! Guess there are no frequent flyer geekzoners!

I'd love to see someone with 'elite priority one' doubt there are many people with that.

Only from a OneSmart card balance or compatible credit card tho, right?

If you don't have a balance on your OneSmart it would be a real pain.

hmm I didn't realize that...

Looks like you either have to have a onesmart, or a air nz credit card. Although I thought all airpoints members were eligible for a onesmart card (which is just a prepaid debit card - easy to add funds too)

regular trips to AUS and Singapore and a few other places... Although I lost a contract late last year so its unlikely i'll be able to keep elite for much longer...I'm only just going to make it this year. At least I have '2 years in the bank'

Also just spent 5k on a family trip to Europe!! Nice.. A shame I wont get status or air points for that trip though!!

I often fly Jetstar - I must be in their "pro elite diamond star (more emotive adjectives here)" membership level!

But in all honesty Jetstar is often less than half the price and not THAT bad.

The Airpoints card is a Onesmart card so everybody has one. All you have to do is activate it if you want to use it.

I notice on the page for Air Points top up it says:
"Eligibility criteria apply. Bank of New Zealand (BNZ) is the issuer of the OneSmart Account."

That will be interesting considering they just dumped them...

The contractual arrangements for onesmart might be different and remember it is still MasterCard which aligns with Westpac exclusive offerings (they do not issue visa or Amex any more). Other big player potentially losing out is ASB, which quite frankly is the worst offering now

For departing Wellington the terminal is much closer as well. I travelled on Jetstar with a live cockroach as a passenger. Suffice to say I stopped flying with them

its all about status m8. Doesn't matter about the benefits, its about saying to people I am the elite.

Seriously though, have always had bad experiences with jetstar so will never fly with them (unless I have absolutely no choice)
