Having worked for the airline (when R Fyfe was running it) and been fortunate to fly back and forth to the uk several times in Biz Class.
I now have to actually pay for my flights , (wasn't that a shock to the system!) and I generally fly cattle class.

These days I wouldn't bother with business class unless you need to impress, premier economy is fine.
Its not like first class in the old days, then there was a difference. There still is with the other majors. Not so much now with Air NZ. When the Purser does his tour of business class with his sleeves rolled up (literally) no tie, saying "Gday great to see yer!" you know standards have dropped.

In case you didnt know you can buy access to the lounge I think its $40 for 4 hours and $80 for all day. If you are stuck at the airport all day its well worth it.

When i sat In airnz pe, my greatest issue was my thigh bone was too short for the humongous seat. I ended up with back pain. Second the legs don't go up.

For my femur length it was complete waste of money.

Next i tried business class. WOW. But $$$. For an old man like me the for hours was luxury as. But beware their 767 business is not as posh. I always use the bidding thing. Is it still available? Ran out of money to fly this year ...

Lounge access is fantastic esp over lunch and dinner. Or if you like free booze.

firefuze: The Space Seats mean you will be seated together and if you take the centre aisle seats, they are advertised as been perfect couples because she can ever so conveniently place her legs over your lap while she sleeps and use all of your shared table. The business premier seating means you can't actually see each other, you would have to remove yourself from your seat to interact.

All seats also now have a chat function within the IFE, so even if you aren't facing each other you can send messages backward and forward at least.

Unfortunately no, no you can not. Air NZ cut that off due to overcrowding after the AKL lounge upgrade because people with CCs including lounge vouchers were filling the place up so actual status passengers couldn't get in. You can get in for something like $60 to the Emperor Lounge if you're departing AKL though (there should be an equivalent lounge at most airports - just look up "Priority Pass").

Bear in mind that PE on the 789 planes is a completely different offering from PE on the 773. Rather than the spaceseat, it's a more conventional luxury leather chair- not lie-flat like Business. I haven't yet flown on one of those, but I'm considering booking an unnecessary flight to PER from AKL just so I can try it out. Just means an unnecessary flight from BNE to AKL first, and a domestic PER-BNE back (AU domestic is EXPENSIVE)

I've flown PE on the refreshesd 777-200 which has the same seats as the 787 and I think they are awesome. Very close to business class on the old 767

The BP lie-flat seating along with the smaller quieter cabins, definitely makes a difference on the long-haul flights IMO. PE and Economy are definitely easier on the wallet though, so that fact alone might help the majority of people in those cabins sleep better.

Paid lounge access was discontinued probably 6-8 months ago.

A thought - Are you both on the same PNR? As far as I was last aware, as a Koru member you should be able to book preferred seating for that flight, provided there is availability, which will allow you to be seated in PE (16 seats are reserved for frequent flyers). If you are on the same PNR you should have access to this seating along with your partner. 6 seats are assigned as $20 seat upgrades to anyone, then the remainder of the seats for works deluxe. Note that if you pay for a standard economy seat and select premium seating to be seated in PE I believe you are not entitled to meal service, just the perk of being in a better seat. I'm not sure (but I don't see why not) if you can then BP from there (providing it goes through).

There is no Preferred Seating on TT in the PE seating since they introduced the PE product on the TT routes last year. If you want to sit in the PE seats now you have to pay PE pricing (or upgrade) but get the PE product.
