scottjpalmer: A new product in the market, AT&T $45 for 6GB and calling texting including Canada and Mexico roaming.

I'm using it now, free SIM from AT&T store, was slow around LAX but fine in Chicago, Toronto, Montreal so far.

Technofreak: For your mapping requirements put Here Maps on your phone and download the maps for where you're going before you leave. Here works in offline mode and or outside of data coverage. There's no need to worry about data consumption.

I know I only need to add a +1 to this - but wanted to add more support for this idea. The 'pre-download and use offline' feature of Here Maps is brilliant - have used it extensively in North America and other places. Most recently used it on my Huawei P9+ and it made a great satnav.

The app is actually now called HERE WeGo.

You can do something similar with Google Maps to get offline voice-directed nav directions but imo Here Maps is much easier to use.

Sometimes I just sit and think. Other times I just sit.
