Cash is always the easiest. And it's not like Melbs is the other side of the planet, so a travel card is probably OTT.

And unless you're doing something dodgy/ or you're seriously clumsy, I can't see how it is less secure than your cards.

Ever since my last overnight trip to NZ (where I found myself without access to an ATM) I only take cash, because I couldn't even get food with my Oz ANZ card via EFTPOS in NZ. At a place on the other side of Welly Airport (I'm talking about you, Spruce Goose)!

Spruce Goose is awesome, but it is not I have never been able to use EFTPOS overseas only ATM and Credit Card, luckily I have Visa Debit as well as a credit card, but I usually take cash as well using the credit card for big purchases and the cash for day to day.

Just remember Aussie don't use EFTPOS like we do..

Purchases under $5/10 are usually cash not EFTPOS/Visa... (does depend on the shop of course)

Always carry cash as well because some stores just won't take card payments at all. There were quite a few stores or restaurants we went to that had big "CASH ONLY" signs on the door.
Not all stores are like that, but it was very strange to see because over here even things like market stalls seem to have EFTPOS now days.

Wanting a cash only store isn't just because they don't have EFTPOS. It's because they don't want it. smile

Don't use loaded for cash etc as the rate they give you is awful in the first place. Even worse than interbank rate + 2.5% fee.
