And it's decided. Our trip will be to Bali with a night or two in Singapore on the way there. We decided late September/early October suits us best (start of school holidays here, but start of low season there) so have a few months to get finalised.

We think we'll look at hiring a villa/house depending on how many/any of our friends choose to join us this year. So now the hunt is on for somewhere to stay.

Thanks for the input everyone.

How did you arrive at your decision?

It's somewhere neither of us have been. It's not too crazy expensive to stay there. It's not too crazy expensive to fly there. There are good beaches, good walks, and relaxation opportunities without investing too much time in travel between locations.

And my wife decided that that's where she wanted to go...

I took a look at the images on "Bali" ... I'd like to go there too!

Villas are a popular option in Bali. I stayed at an Airbnb one in Ubud for 3 nights, worked out at $32 per person per night (4 people).

Awesome, thanks for the tip! I hadn't even considered Air bnb.

Just be mindful that if you get a rotten deal with airbnb - eg: cancel your room last minute. no beach. etc. Make sure you read the feedback thoroughly.

Hotels are more reliable I would think but I don't travel enough to know.

Hilton dishes out 35-40% off rooms at random, so I'd check their website every fortnight.

That time of year can have a lot of Australians on end of winter sport season booze trips. But just don't go to Kuta and you will be fine
