During the school holidays/holiday seasons in particular, you have to endure an avalanche of idiotic adults traveling with their families and about to head off to the Pacific islands (who most likely bought premium economy tickets as treats) coming into the lounge in their shorts and then making a mess of the place. Snip

PE doesn't get you lounge access. So they were either Koru members or elite etc. Or paid extra for lounge passes.

I suspect they probably paid for passes or redeemed via credit cards, as these people typically appear to have no idea how the lounges work, e.g. taking a great deal of time to work out how to enter them and then where everything is etc. In my experience, people tend to behave far better in non-Air NZ lounges also. I have no idea what it is about those in particular that seem to attract so many inconsiderate people.

I could hazard a guess...!

As much as the lounge access (the LAX lounge is fabulous, btw) the priority check in, priority boarding and additional baggage allowance are useful tools in easing the pain of economy flying for those who cannot justify the eye watering costs of Business fares.

Can you use the LAX lounge with Koru membership?  I thought most of the overseas ones were Star Alliance lounges, and therefore not available for Koru members, only Airpoints Gold.  That see,s to be the big disadvantage of Koru compared to Qantas club

Yes you can use the LAX lounge with Koru - Koru gives you lounge access at every international airport where NZ operates and has a lounge offering - regardless of whether that be a NZ run Koru lounge or a partner lounge.

I think they should make the membership about 3 times more expensive. It's too accessible at the current pricing and it shows in some of the lounges.

In general the lounges are awesome at the start and end of the day. But Auckland Domestic really needs sorting out, Nelson comes to mind too (although I guess the new terminal will sort that out). I personally think that only Elite members should be allowed guests and children should just not be permitted. A ditch those passes that people of airpoints credit cards get. The lounges should be for the sole purpose of making the frequent flyer's day just a little better. Too many people just makes it an absolute cesspool on Friday afternoon/evenings.

Thats the exact reason I don't join Koru - those freebie lounge passes from AirNZ credit cards. I currently have 11 passes sitting on my airpoints account and I seem to accumulate them faster than I can use them up.

The kids thing is interesting - on family holidays I've been able to bring wife and all 3 kids into the international lounge - each time they've said "only because we're not full". For that reason we always check in early.

So sorry Chevrolux, I'm your worst enemy! (Although unlikely to be using a  business hours flight with the family in tow).

I was Gold Elite and Gold for years then stopped flying as much and now just Silver. The Koru membership is great for priority check-in, seat selection and the lounge access.

Kids don't bother me as much a bored businessmen types who hold long loud conversations on their cell phones..

I joined Koru out of curiosity as I was planning some big trips so thought it might be useful.

However I was/am surprised how often flight from Chch to Dunedin were delayed.

3 out of last 4 flights and one was cancelled completely but the membership meant I was automatically rebooted on next flight and sent Txt message to that effect and I had only to text back confirmation. Four minutes after I did that there was an announcement to public about the cancellation and many ended up being bused .

Oh god, can you imagine how bad that will be once they allow phone calls during flights!

Used to hate kids on flights. That was before I had kids. Now when I hear a crying baby on a flight I just think "thank god it's not mine".

Mine now only moan on flights if they can't charge their iPads.

I guess this ^ is why they removed the option for $30 casual entry I used to use on my occasional business travel! Turned up one day to use it and they said they didn't offer that anymore.

Thanks for that, it seems better than it used to be but I haven't had Koru membership for quite a while

I'm exactly like that re kids on flights - so easy to filter out when you know it's not your problem.

The funniest one re calls in the lounge was in an Australian lounge, a (obviously extremely important) woman was having a lengthy facetime conversation on the ipad she was holding in one hand while she was serving herself from the buffet.  Wasn't even using headphones, so we all got to hear both sides of a very tedious conversation

I get it for 'free' as frequent flyer.  If it wasn't free, I don't think I would buy it - based on the comparatively poor catering in the regional lounges.

Steamed pies anyone?

Just paid for another year to beat the price rise.  A real grudge purchase to be honest.  Not worth it unless you fly weekly.

I don't fly every week but just knowing that I can have a shower while flying long haul a few times a year is great...
