Rarotonga and chuck in a day trip (or a couple of days) over to Atutaki.  Best place on earth!

NZ $$ short flights, can't beat it.

Lazy is such an ugly word, I prefer to call it selective participation

Cairns, or anywhere else in FNQ.

Just before/at the start of the wet season is the best time, and you can still swim in the sea.

We've just booked our second trip to Hawaii. Kids love it. We did it quite cheaply last time but did a lot of driving around. This time we are going more up market but staying put in Honolulu.

If you stay in Honolulu, it is well worth the early morning start to visit the USS Arizona Memorial at Pearl Harbor.

+ 1 for Sunshine coast, mainly because with a bit of luck you can fly to Brisbane or Gold Coast airport for $400-$500 per person (out of Wellington), sometimes even in school holidays, when most of the pacific island fares seem to skyrocket. Also great value rental cars and apartments and climate in October should be great (even July is pretty nice, coming from Wellington :->)

In the GC you can rent a luxurious 3 bdrm apartment for the price of a hotel room in Auckland. Great beaches a walk away and great theme parks a short drive.

Sunshine Coast I like even better, less theme parks but has Australia Zoo up that way. More golf courses than you can poke a stick at too.
