Sad to see the 747s go but for economy passengers the demise of the
A380 is even worse.

787 Dreamliner economy kicks the a380's butt

but in terms of pure beauty the 747 is king

If you are talking about an 8-abreast 787 (as originally designed by Boeing), you might have a point.
Since the only ones flying in that configuration are some 787-8s of ANA, probably not.

A 9-abreast 787 - specified by the vast majority of airlines, including Air NZ - is a nasty squeezy thoroughly unpleasant way to travel anything over a couple of hours. Just like a 10-abreast 777, btw. This is why I refuse to fly Air NZ economy class except in an A320 trans-Tasman.

The A380 is incomparably more comfortable in my personal experience.

I guess if you're 1.70m & 65kg it might not matter, but I'm quite a bit bigger than that.

Most 777-300s have a few seats right down the back in pairs, so those are quite good.

the A380 is 10 abrest in a 3-4-3 configuration with a 32 inch seat pitch, the dreamliner has abreast a 3-3-3 with a 38 inch seat pitch, am I missing something?

I think the Air NZ 787s are either 31 or 32 inch seat pitch in standard economy.

It is quite interesting to tune into this discussion thread.
I hope you all enjoyed the video!
It was an incredibly sad day for all of us as Qantas retired an icon of Australian Aviation, ending an important era, and I'm glad to have experienced it first hand.

Seems to be more likely an end of an era in general: https://www.euronews.com/2020/07/29/jumbo-jet-boeing-confirms-it-will-stop-making-747-aircraft-from-2022

It ended an era of Avation in the pacific with Air NZ and Fiji Airways both retiring the Queen Of the Skies a few years earlier for Regular Passenger Transport

but as with all things that eventually become obsolete she must step aside to let the A350 and 777x be new leaders of the sky

A flight on an Airbus A350 would be nice, just make sure your passport stays in good condition until 2022ish..

I just have to cross the apron but it will not be a regular scheduled one :-)

I totally geeked out when an A350 landed in Wellington to do some short runway tests in 2018 - spent a good half day watching it at the airport
