Well, I just received an email from the passport office that they are almost at the point of starting to look at it...

Just received an update that the passport was dispatched today. Still a bit salty that they processed and dispatched other passports that were submitted after I had submitted mine before they even looked at my application, but, at least they finally processed it.

No communication from them, so will see when the date of the child's passport is from given the subject is no longer a child.

GeekGuy:

Submitted my application to renew online, my expired Passport on Sunday night (9/06/2024) and have just received a message that it has now been completed on 11/06/2024.

Photo done at my local Chemist and paid for the passport with the $215 option.

If I remember correctly, my previous expired passport took about the same time as well.

Mine was amazingly prompt too - I had considered the express option given the listed up-to 8-week wait, but decided to go select the standard timeframe.  I took the photo and submitted the application on Tuesday night and was notified the next day that it was being sent out. (Passport renewal, going from child->adult).

Not having a Real Me identity, I went with the old fashioned paper form with a photo from the local chemist. They take them all the time so expect they know what is needed to pass.  They certainty aren't slow in taking the application fee!  We have plenty of time before travel so not worried about processing time.  The fact they took the money so fast gives some comfort it is at least in the system.   I expect that renewals would be a bit quicker than first time applicants.

Lazy is such an ugly word, I prefer to call it selective participation

I'm sure you're right about renewals being quicker than new passports, but I took the option to create a Real Me profile during the online passport renewal application, and it only added about 5-10 minutes to the process.

So get this. Put in a renewal request 1 May.

Referee / witness receives an email on the 11 of June to verify identify.

Passport sent out 12 June.

So it took less than a day for them to process a new passport but took them over a month to send out an automated email to my referee.

Took 6 weeks with my renewal.

My Passport has just been delivered, 4 days overall. Processed on Sunday night (including opening a Real Me profile).

Am either lucky or the back log has been cleared.

My renewel was equally fast in transit now
Hopefully the Passport office has got over the hump for everyone.
I did go with a photo from local chemist.

I was in last stage of 'Realme' process too, after having problems with their online ID tool.
So had to get a photo done at an AA agent.
Plus in that that photo is free, minus AA agent is kinda very busy with licence stuff.

A day after passport approval I did finally get the Realme one.
So maybe Realme did eventually help the process?

Though I am not sure what other use Realme has as I have not seen anyone else using it?

Data-point:

Adult renewal, previous passport expired >15 years ago. Lost whilst moving.

4 June) Online application made, paid.

4 July) ID referee email sent, approved by referee same-day.

5 July) Dispatched.

4 weeks, 3 days. Not bad for an estimated timeframe of 8 weeks!

Just an update on this, the passport is valid from 12th June for 5 years, for someone who turned 16 on the 4th June, so, a 5 year passport for someone who was no longer a child due their delay.

Passport renewal application submitted online 4pm on Friday the 12th, I wasn't expecting anything for at least several weeks given their warning that can take up to 8 weeks. However I then got an email on Monday the 15th at 12pm that it was complete and had been dispatched. So about half a working day to process, rather efficient.

Last time I did this, I was living in Welly.  After resolving the orientation issue with the photo it was easy to submit.  I submitted a non-urgent application and I had my passport either that afternoon or the next day.  I can't remember which, but either way it was impressively fast.
