Interestingly I have just done a bunch of research for some flights I'm planning on booking this week going to San Jose and Los Angles. With Premium Economy as a benchmark price (company paying) I have worked out I can get Business/First class on Hawaiian with one stop in Honolulu for about the same price. The short stop (2h) in Honolulu nicely breaks up the long flight and the bonus of a direct flight to "Silicon Valley" (rather than having to go through Los Angles or San Francisco) is fantastic. Also, the A330's are not subject to any major defects as it stands!

I would urge to reconsider Hawaiian option, 2h for transfer over there might not be enough! because you fly-in to US and first port = immigration + luggage pick up, plus run to register for new flight. My ex almost missed her connection flight, it was 2 hrs window too.

Recently returned from Auckland to Heathrow on anz-singapore economy.

ANZ on dreamliner with sky couch for the kids, very nice all round.
Singapore to Healthrow on A380 outward and 777 return.

The 777 seem to be showing their age which isn't surprising compared to next generation a380 and dreamliner.

Only sour note was the was the Singaporr male senior stewards ?perser towards the to female staff. Both me and the other half noticed it independently. Dismissive tone, pushing them out of the way to pull things out of trolley, loud.

A.

I thought so too, but in reality it was ok. Honolulu is a bit stressful to come out of International and transfer to domestic though, there is very little in the way of useful signage (half the screens were not working or displaying no or wrong gate information) and the staff were quite unhelpful. If I was trying to drag kids around it would not be an enjoyable experience. The Honolulu to San Jose flight was on a really crappy old 767, "first class" was worse then modern economy. The rest of the flights were on A330's which were excellent.

HNL is a truly crappy old airport in dire need of a major makeover - or better still, if possible knock it down and start again. Some of the transitions from one gate to another are incredibly long and tortuous - we walked for half an hour there a few years ago. Much of it is once-trendy open-air breeze-thru - i.e. no walls or glass - so it can't be air-conditioned in that hot climate and is noisy and jet-exhaust smelly.

Sometimes I just sit and think. Other times I just sit.

Yea, nothing like a hot sticky walk between terminals when you are already tired and grumpy from a long flight.
