we flew qatar airlines and got an upgrade to qsuite and its ruined me for long distance travel, it feels like I'll never want to compromise on not using it ever again 🤣

Cant fault anything with the airline, they're great

How did you get the upgrade?!

Hi all

We are also looking using Qatar to get from NZ to Barcelona (via Doha) in late Jan

1. Did anyone stopover for more than 1 night at Doha and take advantage the Qatar stopover programme? (allows low cost accommodation i.e. standard or superior room at really low cost for 1-4 night but cannot be upgraded

2. From what I can tell Qatar 'super Wi-Fi' if in economy is only available as of Sept gone in Airbus A350-1000 and some Airbus A350-900 and some 777s

It appears one has to go out via Australia to get Airbus A350-1000?

Hi,

We used the Discover Qatar accommodation deal on our way back through last time as our stop over was just over ~24hrs, this gave time to get a proper sleep before actually getting around some of the city. We also used a 3 hour tour through the same Discover Qatar offer so that we got an air-conditioned ride around the major sites for ~$70NZD (total for two people). The tour allowed time to actually have a quick look around the museum and other sites, could easily spend longer there, but it was good for the time we had available.

We had the option of which hotel and we selected the Souq Waqif just to be in among some real life rather than attached to or on top of a modern shopping mall. The room itself was really nice, personally better than most I've stayed in in NZ & Aus for work. I emailed the hotel directly after booking via Discover Qatar with a room request and the sorted things out no problem at all.

Re:Wifi, it depends on the specific 777-200 plane, we had Wifi on the way out, but not on the way back. Really didn't bother me, they had a good selection of movies and sleep.

Service for me has been excellent in both business and economy.

chatterbox: All of the 777-200LRs look to have Wifi. I haven’t seen a list of aircraft with super Wifi but I think those on the Auckland to Doha route have super Wifi. It’s cheap and good.

I haven’t used the stopover programme but have stopped over. Remember Fri Sat is their weekend. It’s safe. I will aim to stopover again next year but aiming to do certain activities in the evening or early morning.

Indeed this article dated Sept is the most informative

https://www.executivetraveller.com/your-complete-guide-to-qatar-airways-inflight-wifi

I contacted Qatar Contact Centre yesterday who advised Super-WiFi rollout for the 777s is on going and there is no way to know in advance whether ones flight will have it 😞

It seems to be guaranteed Super Wi-Fi on Qatar I'll need to get a 359-1000 which only from Australia

Our alternative is Air NZ or Singapore Air but my understanding is Air NZ don't have Wi-Fi on the 787s yet and on Singapore airlines its expensive?

Qatar have 30 777-200s and 48 777-300s. The term 777 includes all of these so the advice you received is correct. Specifying 777-200LR may have yielded a more accurate answer but I wouldn't expect the agent on the phone to know.

Only the 777-200LR flies to Auckland and there are 9 in the fleet. All pictures of these aircraft on flightradar24 have Wi-Fi domes. It's highly likely they’re all super Wi-Fi. I had one flight previously without Wi-Fi but the pictures now say they all have Wi-Fi and they won't have fitted the old one.

Avoid Air NZ 787 if you're keen on Wi-Fi and yes Singapore Airlines pricing is ridiculous. Not a fan of Emirates Wi-Fi either.

Qatar email fixed price offers to upgrade to business 1-2 weeks from departure. You can enquire at Doha about upgrades as well. Note you're not eligible for access to the business class lounges with upgrades, nor can you use the business/first class entry exits from the airport in Doha either.
