Flew Aeroflot back in the 80's from Heathrow to Singapore via Moscow and New Delhi. This was when the Berlin Wall,Checkpoint Charlie was still up and everyone in Russia dressed like the early 1900's. Had no drama's with the flight and only saw the cabin crew a couple of times when they tried selling caviar, vodka and cheap Russian cigarettes to the passengers.

 

 

I've taken that flight (1989 ish), Some old Illusion Something cargo plane given seats. The All male cabin crew looked like KGB unarmed combat specialists. They didn't really speak English.

 

I remember being moved around Moscow airport at some ungodly hour of the morning with every intersecting corridor blocked by armed guards

 

Because most of the plane was full of Indian Nationals there were hundreds of burger patties left over and they stood by the galley and held some up in tongs (remember no English) and all those that wanted more put there had up (I was 23.. so yummo)

 

One of the cabin crew had the same kind of Timex data bank watch as me and apparently the manual was not printed in Russian, So I spent quite a long time with him showing him how to use it (almost no English again) but I got free Booze

 

As I still say to this day "If you get a chance to fly Aeroflot... don't"

I think it was 1987 or 1988  when I flew them... I thought the female flight staff would make great front row props. I managed to buy on of those Matryoshka dolls at Moscow Airport (still have it ... nearly 40 years old now). The plane was full of Indian Nationals, they couldnt walk past your seat without bouncing off your shoulder or everyone else seated on the aisle seat. I remember coming into land at New Delhi and there was an old lady out of her seat, as soon as the wheels hit the tarmac she went reeling forward towards the end bulkhead. She managed to grab the last seat and climb into it.
