If it disintegrated in mid air to the point that the electronics all stopped working, at once, considering the amount of redundancy measures they must have in a modern aircraft like that, it would indicate either a really huge explosion, or perhaps some sort of multiple frequency jamming system which would probably be as easy to trace as the signal its self. It's early days of course but if there is no wreckage at all then what happened to the parts, surely even a significant explosion would leave some form of wreckage.
I wonder how deep the sea is out there.

During Sept11 they managed to disable the onboard primary radar from responding details. (the one that responds to ground interogation), which seems to disable transmission of all manually entered hijack squawk codes, but from what I understand that then left secondary ADSB on, allowing them to ask others around to gain visual conformations etc.

Theres double if not tripple redunandy to ensure they all stay on, batteries, 2 power sources, the APU turbine in the rear... the pop-out wind driven turbine for running hydraulics and essential electronics. You would have to be a smart cookie to locate and disable all of them before the automated engineering alerts got a chance to fire off.

Would anyone (perhaps a pilot or enthusiast) be able to comment here about the content of this video?

It seems weird to me, but I'll be the first to admit I don't fully understand how the flight monitoring/tracking system works. To this guy, it seems like a cover-up of some sort...But like I said, I can't really make any sort of determination myself. It seems fishy at face value, but so does this entire event.

TL;DR: Is this guy nuts, or does he have a point?

To add to that:

I was just reading how some family members ringing mobile phones are able to get a ringing tone back suggesting that the phone is connected to the network. Could this be a different case in other countries? Or does hearing a ring down your phone mean the other phone is legitimately responding?

caveat 2: mobile phone could ring because they were left behind? there will be no signal in the middle of nowhere. unless of course the Thor-space-time-wormhole-opening thing is the explanation as earlier suggested by someone

About the phone ringing it's more than likely that because it is an international call and it routes a few times trying to find the phone before dropping. It's not like they went through to voicemail or anything?

It turns out that 99.9% of statistics on the internet are made up anyway. If what the person demonstrates can be re-produced with the reputable tracking application, then his video may have raised an interesting kink in the story the officials have been giving us. The official story being, it just dropped off and nobody heard or saw of it on radar since.

I believe it was me that suggested a hole in space time, or at least suggested something similar, haha. Anything in possible at this stage, right?

The theory with regards to the mobile phones makes sense. I don't think reports suggested the phones were reaching a voice-mail after ringing. I found it interesting because if it were true and the devices were actually ringing, it would indicate that the plane was parked safely on land or at the very least, close to a tower. It must be hell discovering that as a family member without the technical knowledge to fully understand what is happening with the phone.

This is actually killing my brain. All the unknowns, speculation, facts and non-facts, hearsay...etc. I just want something solid to go on!

Look at the video, its 9M-MRQ and he has his days allll sorts of messed up. It was the following days one.

Various online outlets were 'oooh loook at this' then spotted the error and removed it. Sadly there are now many screencapture recordings as this out there

Thank you for pointing that out! I only have a 2Mb connection, so i can't watch it in a high definition. I can't make out any of the text on the screen. :( I'm not too familiar with how these things work either.

From an un-namable source first reported in media that come up with 'it landed here fine' 3 separate times before retracting in the first day.. take it with a grain of salt :)

Which is the same outlet reporting they are making calls to the cells, completely forgetting that ringing /= other end ringing. And that of these they reportedly called, none called out and eded up at VM? Riiight. But as pointed out, can be conceivably system or carrier handover "comfort noise" generated when going through various switching. Similar to the different rings you get when calling VoIP based helpdesks with local numbers etc. I mean just cause my ATA gives me dial tone, doesn't mean it's got a live outgoing link and all..

You would have to be damn smart to turn off all the backup systems and primary all before some of the automated engineering alerts etc found out and reported there was a prob via HFDL etc.

I agree flight tracking is ... umm ... non existent?

If it turns out to be as suggested now, that for some reason the plane changed course, then the transponder and ACARS were apparently not functioning / turned off.
But this doesn't make sense, as the plane was reportedly seen on military radar on the changed course, unless it was identified as a commercial flight, surely they wouldn't just ignore it.
There was a hint that something like this may have happened, as there were reports that another Malaysian Airlines flight over Vietnam had made muffled radio contact with MH370, after the transponder signal was lost.
If it had been hijacked, then why would the MH370 pilots respond at all? If it had some serious system failure but was still able to make radio contact, then why no mayday call or other contact?
It's very weird - and potentially very sinister.

For those not keeping up with the play, the Military officer quoted (regarding it turning around and going other way) has come out and denounced the media for mis-quoting and demanding ammendment. As a result the search pattern grew, but less focus on the western areas.

And 4 days later there are some really crap resolution images out of china with an official release form (potentially to stop themselves looking like idiots again) with what is described as potential debris

And further to it, someone has pipped up with the crowdsource search method with another possible hit (which if you look at it enough you can convince yourself its a fuselage)

But as per usual. Until we see results take it with a grain of salt. This appears to be one of the worst "QUICK! Make a media release" stuff up scenarios since the birth of the internets.

wow I have a feeling after this has been fully investigated the international aviation authority will put better (99% reliable!) location devices on every plane!
