Koru doesn't get you into the Maple Leaf Lounge in Vancouver......unfortunately.

Why do you think that? It does, and always has done (+ 1 guest also). You obviously have to be flying NZ metal to access it.

I am amazed at how little value for money the Koru lounge delivers nowadays. The food consists of what is cheap and is usually terrible. The lounges are after more crowded than the actual public concourse and then there's always one dickhead shouting into their phones which are on speaker mode.

A few weeks back I was in the wellington lounge and the sausages they were serving had gone off. They still cooked them. Disgusting really

I hope the prices keep going up so the dam lounges empty out a bit and Air NZ can afford to buy some decent food.

I wouldn't eat sausages these days, unless making them myself. I haven't had bought them for years. Bit odd the would serve them in a premium lounge. I would expect some pretty decent food. My parents have used the koru lounge when they have had free passes in the past, and found it good.

According to Dunnersfella, having such views makes you a whinger!

Lounges are often a victim of their success.

I use the lounges on the Interislander (I have Nautical Miles membership too) and when they first started offering them, hardly anyone used them so it was fabulous. Quiet, full breakfast on morning crossing and all sorts.

Then the bogans came and sometimes the lounge looks like Heathrow terminal 4 in the middle of strike action.

FYI the AirNZ linked credit cards offer Koru joining fee waiver and annual $145 discount on the membership bringing it down to $464 p.a (which you can pay with the airpoints accumulated with the card). Not hard to spend enough on one of these get your Koru and a few return flights to Queenstown a year "free".

Enjoy it while you can because that won't be the case once interchange rates are slashed.

Yep - depends on busy times. I don't go there as often as I like but my sis goes about twice a month and usually gets a <$100 ticket.

Happened already in Australia. I think it will be a while changing here.

I fly very infrequently but I still find Koru worth it. My membership is up at the end of November and I have only accessed the lounge 8 times, plus with my partner 6 of those times, bringing our total entries to 12. Two of my credit cards offer the membership discount, so it'll be $484 again this year. That works out to roughly $40 per entry per person, which I am more than happy with for the food, comfort, extra baggage allowance (saved me a few times!) and showers. Plus not having to queue up!

You may want to check the T&C's on those credit card offers.. The fine print may spell out that it is for new members only and not renewals.

Doesn't look to be a one off thing from my reading. My two cards:

ANZ Visa Airpoints Platinum:

ANZ Airpoints Visa Platinum Primary Account Holders and Additional Cardholders will be entitled to a discount of $145 per annum on the annual individual Koru membership fee, provided your Airpoints Account is being operated in accordance with the Airpoints Terms and Conditions.

American Express Airpoints Platinum:

The Basic Card Member shall be entitled to a waiver of the Koru joining fee and a discount of $145 on one-year, individual Koru membership. The Koru joining fee waiver and the discount on the Koru annual membership fee only applies to Card Members and may only be used in conjunction with one-year Koru memberships for individuals.

I fly domestic a few times a year and maybe a holiday to Australia/Asia every year. Unfortunately when I can fly to Gold Coast return for $222 vs probably $450+ on Air NZ, being able to take advantage of Koru membership would mean I'd have to pay another $200+. Not so good value then.

Could say the same about Jetstar domestic flights.
