Yes indeed. I've even gone so far as to set up a Transferwise account for my business - plugs into Xero as a bank account with feeds and everything!

Apologies if asked before - I know there is a fee for ATM withdrawal (after a set amount per 30 days) but is there also a foreign transaction fee for buying goods/services while travelling overseas?

To mark the milestone, the company announces a new feature for Kiwis:

 

Instant cross-border payments between TransferWise customers, using just a mobile number

 

TransferWise’s Kiwi customers with a multi-currency account, will now be able to send domestic as well as cross-border transfers instantly between themselves, in more than 50 currencies, using just a mobile number, without the need to ask for any bank details. This is further evidence of a new global standard, which eliminates legacy banking, reliant on bank details for international transfers.

 

Tim Cameron, TransferWise New Zealand Country Manager, says "Now more than ever it's important that New Zealanders can move money efficiently around the world, without being stung with ridiculous fees.

 

“Banking works domestically but international money management is still notoriously hard. This new feature makes managing money across borders more convenient for everyone, without any need for confusing codes.

 

“Our new offering means whether you are still paying for a flat in London, or expecting a gift from someone in Australia you can send and receive money instantly and without fees."

 

Powered by smart technology, it ensures people automatically get the lowest price when sending money instantly across borders, between accounts. For example, if a TransferWise user wants to send NZD to another TransferWise user who doesn’t have an NZD balance in their TransferWise account, rather than converting the money, TransferWise’s smart tech will automatically open an NZD balance for the recipient for free. The recipient can then choose to keep the money in NZD, or convert it at a time that is convenient to them.

 

The main benefits include:

 

  • Instant: send over 50 currencies to other TransferWise users in 170+ countries instantly regardless of the currency route
  • Low-cost: same currency transfers between TransferWise users are free, while cross-currency transfers only incur a low conversion fee, usually between 0.4% and 0.7% of the transfer amount.
  • Smart tech: TransferWise will automatically open a balance for you in the currency you’re sent money in. That way, the money doesn’t get converted unnecessarily and users can decide to hold money in whichever currency they need.
