freitasm: Nope, I wasn't offered anything.

Did you already apply for another card?

Likewise, I had no tier upgrades offered. I did apply for the Westpac card about 2 weeks ago and cancelled my BNZ card last week.

If you can't laugh at yourself then you probably shouldn't laugh at others.

Geektastic: My wife had the Platinum BNZ Airpoints and got an email the other day offering her a pre-approved Westpac World card with a $20,000 limit!

Westpac must have hoovered up the database from Air NZ.

Everyone I know with a GlobalPlus Platinum card who hasn't already moved away from BNZ got an email from Air NZ offering a Westpac card with a $20k limit, including me. I only have a $12k limit on my BNZ Platinum card now. I got offered Platinum not World card tho.

Air NZ obviously know what card you have had with BNZ, and maybe your credit limit and other details too, as well as if you have linked any new cards. I am guessing they have working on this deal and shared some of the data with Westpac in this land grab. I also got offered an international flight upgrade. I have no status with Air NZ, But I understand others who do have been offered an upgrade to Gold Elite, or an extra banked year of GE.

I just applied last week for Westpac MasterCard Platinum with pre-approved $14k - an up from BNZ GlobalPlus of $4k. Got the email for keying in the PIN before the card gets sent out by end of this month. I'm planning to move some remaining of balance from BNZ GlobalPlus and another HP balance over to Westpac to take advantage of their 0% balance transfer for 12 months.

Been great run with BNZ GlobalPlus but the joy is over.

p/s: I'm impressed to see that setting PIN is done swiftly and via AirNZ OAuth.

Really? If it wasn't, the Amex Centurion would be a hard sell...!

"The card, available for personal and business use, offers services such as a dedicated concierge and travel agent; complimentary companion airline tickets on international flights on selected airlines with the purchase of a full-fare ticket; personal shoppers at retailers such as Gucci, Escada, and Saks Fifth Avenue; access to airport clubs; first-class flight upgrades; membership in Sony's Cierge personal shopping program and dozens of other elite club memberships.[2] Hotel benefits include one free night, when at least one paid night is booked during the same stay, in every Mandarin Oriental hotel worldwide once a year[2] (except for the New York City property),[7] and privileges at hotel chains like Ritz-Carlton, Leading Hotels of the World, and Amanresorts. All of the benefits mentioned above are for United States-issued cards. American Express Centurion Cards issued in other countries may include different benefits. The card has recently added new amenities, including access into the Gulfstream Aerospace Private Flyers Club, Virgin Atlantic Flying Club Gold, as well as US Airways Platinum Preferred and Delta SkyMiles Platinum Medallion status.

The card also features complimentary enrollment in Hertz Rent-A-Car Platinum Service and the Avis Rent-A-Car President's Club.[8]

Initially it came with an extensive travel insurance all year round no matter how the trip was paid for but since 2012 this insurance is limited to trips which are paid with the card only. (In Australia, the insurance covers all trips, even if paid with another method or frequent flyer miles).

The titanium-crafted "Centurion" card was first issued as an upgrade for all plastic U.S. "Centurion" cards in the first half of 2006, with the titanium version being rolled out to certain other countries as well.

Some Centurion customers have purchased automobiles using the card or made purchases exceeding €1 million (US$1.36 million). The card has no preset limit in theory. In practice the authorization is decided upon past payment and spending patterns; the largest purchase ever made on one was $36 million for a rare porcelain chicken cup by Liu Qiqian.[9] Many retailers object to the high commission charges on large purchases and prefer to offer a cash discount. The card is used for refueling superyachts and private aircraft where the bills can frequently exceed $100,000."

I.e. People concerned with informing others their card has high limit should just go to a 'no limit' Amex Platinum Charge Card in hopes to get noticed by spending 6-7 digits to get the elusive invite to Centurion.

A high credit limit can be required e.g. booking business class seats but realistically how many people in this forum would be doing that regularly?

I'd buy my next car on a card if I had one with a limit that big and the price was the same - get heaps of points and just pay it off at the end of the month with the cash I would have used anyway.

We tried that when we were looking at buying a car few years back, however the car dealer can't transact that due to some daily limit - even for credit card!

platinum cars is $10,000 for ANZ and Kiwibank.

not sure about other banks, so no not $0, that would be called a debit card. and it won't give me air or status points.

There are some issues with buying certain assets with credit cards (e.g houses/land/cars etc) as they involve a legal title transfer. An auto merchant could technically accept a credit card but there is nothing stopping you from issuing a chargeback once receiving the rego transfer. There are exception to the rules as always - and I suspect that is reserved for Centurion holders and above (if there was such a thing)

You are always going to be able to negotiate a better price by not putting it on credit

As long as you have the required self control a large credit limit can be useful, especially when travelling.

I believe that's a Charge Card though, most of the credit limits discussion here revolves around Credit Cards.

Most AMEX charge can't don't have set limits, but rather "spend management". I've had Amex corporate charge cards in the past with no limits.
