I think if I'm going to dogpile Labour for a lack of progress on Light Rail then I have an obligation highlight when they do something really positive:
Philly T has made wholesale changes to the Board of NZTA, including adding public transport advocate Patrick Reynolds.
It's too late in the piece for this term, but if Labour are going to get things back on track then this is exactly what needed to happen.

As usual, National are more interested in intersections and six lane roads provincial backwaters than doing anything to mitigate the economic and social impacts of congestion.
I note that they have not figured out that complaining about funding things in Auckland because other areas miss out will cost them votes from Aucklanders, who are expected to chip in for projects in areas that don't have a population base to fund things themselves.
It will need Twyford, to come with a plan that makes sense, that doesnt include 3 working parties. And he has a year to show its actually making progress. They know that trust and faith is at an all time low, so prove it.

Twyford and a plan that makes sense, now there's an oxymoron.
Here is a crazy notion, lets give peace a chance.

Why's that?

I cringe every-time I see him open his mouth on TV. He has way too many lives.

To put it bluntly he is incompetent and is possibly the coalitions weakest link. He should be demoted to eraser banger.

Thats not an answer thats a political answer. Im keen to know why exactly. It depends if everything he touches goes from great to sad. If thats the case, then yes I agree.
@tdgeek the list of Twyfords' faults, mistakes and incompetence would take a very long time to type something and be very depressing. I have no real desire to do so. My previous post I believe is a good and concise summation of what I feel. Jacinda Ardern, the coalition and Aotearoa would be better served if he were not taken into the 2020 election.

Ok, Mike you wont say. Well, if I said Simon B was incompetent, I would expect others to want to know why I said that. The fact that he is still an MP, still has the Transport portfolio , and given that transport is a huge issue here, especially Auckland, it has to be the worst possible judgement of Adern to keep him, let alone in that portfolio. Yes I am aware of his career, I dont see a long list of fails

@tdgeek as I have mentioned a number of times on GZ due to medical reasons I don't type large screeds of text as typing is very painful and slow for me. I type one handed and it takes a long time.
Ok, sorry Mike.
I don't have an issue with Twyford yet. He was given the reigns of Kiwibuild, that great idea, that failed as the housing crisis has ended the concept of affordable homes, let alone 11000 per year. Nor the cesspit culture CAA. Transport is challenging too, and you would hope that whoever looks after Transport will accomplish some things. At least. But Transport isn't a doomed ship like the other two.
I think in Twyford’s case, his only real fault is he talks a big game, but is then made to look foolish when it can’t be delivered. That included being caught without detailed plans for enacting their promises because they didn’t expect to be in power (IMO). The initial smugness has been somewhat blunted by the reality of how difficult some of the problems the country faces are to solve.

This thread isnt about Simon or National, its about the coalition government.
Twyfords long list of faults are not all down to him, but to his boss who for some idiotic reason gave him close to half the portfolios of the Govt. How could he ever do justice to any of them when he had so many? I note he is still blaming the previous Govt for NZTA's woes when he has been their boss for 2 years. Amazing.
