GV27:

I note funding for Light Rail in Auckland has been reprioritised to the regions.

Migration remains high. New Kiwibuild houses are popping up in West Auckland. It is like some sort of sick joke.

Is that related to the idea to tax congestion, in order to reduce it? Essentially target larger vehicles. Probably better for one sector to manage this, as the Govt, NZTA and AC all seem to bang heads

Not to mention that NZF continues to be ridiculous and JA was typically weak in reprimanding Jones over his disgraceful comments last week. Naughty boy, take the book home and study.

That will certainly learn him. I expect him to come back completely reformed.

My personal view is that the PM should not do anything that may cause the Coalition to fracture. With the state of the World at present we need a stable government and National at this time and for the immediate future is not capable of governing. The last thing we need is Mr Bridges and co making a right royal hash of things. Just for clarity I am a National voter.

Here is a crazy notion, lets give peace a chance.

Do you people have any idea what you sound like? I am reminded of fishwives gossiping about a neighbour over the fence. Whatever JA and anyone else in the government may or may not be doing, or doing right, this kind of carping is hardly improving things.

The goose gallery here somehow manages to find a way to attack Jacinda Ardern on her most appealing qualities: her empathy, charisma, and ability to connect with people. Somehow this gets turned into lightweight, unable to govern, cavalier about this country’s issues. Talk about not being able to win no matter what she does!

If Simon Bridges had been in charge during the Christchurch tragedy, I have no doubt he would have said and done the right things. He is not a horrible person.

But he would not have inspired or uplifted. He would not have won over the Muslim population with his displays of grief and compassion. His image would not have been projected onto Dubai's Burj Khalifa and in media around the world. He is not that kind of person, and he does not have that kind of appeal.

Jacinda Ardern has done more than anyone to place New Zealand in a favourable light all over the international map. Her appearances overseas have raised this country’s public profile enormously. She has generated tremendous goodwill that could not be purchased for any price. Simply by being herself in public, she has probably done more to boost tourism than any advertising campaign. I don’t doubt this has reaped other economic benefits as well, though I can’t quantify them.

If Simon Bridges was in charge today, his pursed lips and dour expression would appear on our screens from time to time as he criticised something the opposition had done and everyone would go to bed depressed. More than anything, he makes me think of the Red Dwarf despair squid, casting unhappiness everywhere he goes. Bridges does not inspire or uplift. He is the ultimate downer.

If Simon Bridges was in charge, no-one would know where drab New Zealand was, and no-one would care. Late night shows would gloss over us. Hobbiton would fall into disrepair. There would be no unicorns or fairy dust and the world would be a less magical place.

And yet the geese continue to honk. I guess that is just what geese do.

Apparently not! Geese, Goats, Kicked Puppies, Red Dwarf, apparently it's open slather.

I kept out of the politics threads for quite a while because of the personal rubbish. I guess things never change.

Hot on the heels of abandoning providing the North West with rapid transit, the Government's Port Working Group has recommended that POA be moved to Whangerei and an Auckland Freight Centre be set up....in North West Auckland.

So the PGF wants to strip a publicly owned asset from Aucklanders, relocate the DC for the entire region to the same area that it refuses to do anything about the congestion therein, transfer a huge number of jobs to another region and introduce a massive amount of supply chain vulnerability into our biggest regional economy.

And who benefits? Why, it's Northland. The same, hugely disproportionate beneficiary of the PGF.

This is honestly starting to get to Republicanesque levels of boondogglerry.

Wait for another pointed comment from a NZF Representative reminding the beneficiaries that Northland "owes" them votes.

Gotta give Winston his due, he is pretty smart. He has played this coalition for all it's worth. A billion or so buys you a lot of votes.

I mean at what point do you start calling this for what it is. Aucklanders can't get to work or home at nights, but the Government Working Group recommends billions of dollars, a loss of jobs and introduces a massive amount of supply chain vulnerability for our biggest economy.

Change one labour law to keep a major film production here and you have people marching in the streets. Economic villainy in the billions for the benefit of one political party? That's totally fine.
