Although if Bridges is leader I wont be voting National.
Does it comfort you to know he would be knifed almost immediately either way?
What do you mean? Either he will be deposed prior to the election or he will remain as leader if Nats win

I suspect he'll be shanked even if they win tbh. Certain Nats that have leadership aspirations probably can't win an election. Easier to let someone else win it for them.

I feel that while he is leader, their chances of winning are heavily compromised
JA? Her honesty, empathy, and desire are unquestioned. But to lead NZ we need leadership, and in that respect she has failed. Controversies within Labour Govt or Labour party and inept Ministers has been left untouched, no leadership or backbone, and we voted for leadership. She needs to show she can and will make the tough calls. Why is Twyford a portfolio minister? Why is Kiwibuild still intact? Had we not had some sad and devastating events in her tenure where she showed her qualities and capability, we would only know from her Government leadership, and that has been well below par. She needs to demonstrate that she can lead a Government, and not let it lead her
MikeB4: @tdgeek give me a viable alternative for PM.
David Seymour.
Now that you've picked yourself up off the floor, I suspect we'll have Robertson vs Crusher/Bennett at some point. Perhaps the least inspiring contest in the history of anything ever.
Past that, the bench is looking a bit thin on both sides.
Does today's infrastructure spend count as an election policy announcement, given the election announcement already happened, a bunch of this stuff was meant to already be started anyway but hasn't and Robbo is raiding some of the Nat's RONS plans to try to make everyone forget about the roads they held up for two years and then caved on?

JA if she can demonstrate that she has backbone for once. Make some hard calls. Dump Twyford and dismantle Kiwibuild
Robertson. Has no baggage that Im aware of, level headed, a Bill English type of boring, but he seems to be a doer
Crusher. Not liked but she is tough, she is a mover and shaker, (especially if you are a car....) No nonsense. When she deposes Simon you would see a more circumspect JC IMO. But do we want a leader we love or one that gets his or her hands dirty and gets the job done? Ideally both, but in a choice of one, we want the job done
Personally I prefer JA but she MUST take control, lead and not be led. I say that ignoring party lines as I voted for them last time. I'd have no issue with Crusher if she had the policies and she implemented them. These parties have issues with implementing, period.

Yes, the contest is on, so yes, the 12B is in play. Roads wise, if Nats say here are RONS, you cant then say, "no, Nats said this so we wont do those as all are wrong". If both parties put together their own RONS then they will be very similar. National can provide their alternative for the 12B spend, whuch they will no doubt do at some point. It better not be tax cuts.

LOL David Seymour I want that coat-tail clinger gone more than Peters and Jones.
I thought of Robertson as a possible leader over the years but his term as Minister has not given me confidence that he is up for the main job, Deputy PM yes he could do that well but not full time PM. Colins and Bennett couldn't lead a group of Cub Scouts let alone a country. They would destroy our international standing with in the first month and divide the Nation in the first week.

We both know the Nats package will be the just the roads bit but with the costs blown out to eat up the full $12b 😄
I had high hopes that Bishop would see the light on things like SH16 - there's no more room to add any roads, so LRT/Rapid Transit Busway is really the only option for alternatives to driving - but I doubt it's going to happen.

I sorta feel the same, but he hasn't done anything to put me off, and he is just Finance, you will rarely hear from him apart from Budget time, he is largely out of the limelight. IMHO he is unproven (as applies to them all) but there is no reason I can see that he cannot lead and get things done
I find something off-putting about allowing infrastructure projects to be delayed until you announce them the day after the PM has announced the election date.
Especially given how you have been lambasted for not delivering them and after causing a giant fuss when an Opposition MP questioned how you were going to pay for your policies.
Frankly I have found Robertson's crowing about prudent financial management hard to stomach in light of this. I too could be a prudent financial manager if I never spent any money or paid my mortgage. But then I would have nowhere to live.

So, same playbook as National then.
