Personally I think its great that our PM is real person \ kiwi bloke and isnt afraid to show his non political side, who hasn't initiated some horseplay at work or at a shop where you are a well known regular (in this case a famous well known regular). We used to be able to do this before all this PC nonsense....its a Kiwi thing.
...

Do you get a coffee in the morning? Instead of waiting patiently for your coffee this morning I want you to reach over and start playing with the waitresses hair.

Still think this is normal 'kiwi bloke' behavior? Two things needs to happen, first I think we need someone in law enforcement to check you out - and secondly could you give me enough non identifying information about yourself so I can make efforts to keep my family safe from you - you sir, are very dangerous.

I've reached the opinion that many GZ people are soulless fun police.

I'm gonna go out and do some jaywalking now.   Catch me if you can.... it is an evil crime, worthy of execution.

jaywalking!!!! the Ministry of silly walks is watching this thread and will get you. Watch out for a giant foot

jonathan18: At 2312hrs on 23 April 2015 I came to the realisation that some people have too much time on their hands.

Ha ha - good call.

NZCrusader: We (as a country) have more important issues to deal with, than a couple of people wanting 5 minutes of fame, dishonest reporters and some bloggers with political agendas.

Mostly agree. He needs to have his behaviour called into question, but yeah - doesn't need to be blown way out of proportion as we've been seeing. This morning One News labelled it 'inappropriate behaviour' and referred to McReady as a 'serial litigant' so it seems sanity is finally coming to the fore.

If you're not careful, someone will write a blog post about you...

I have banned one person for calling names. It's never ok. If you don't agree with someone's action is not ok to call names. It doesn't matter if the person being called is not a member of the forum.

KiwiNZ: To bring this episode to an end I believe that Mr Key needs to address the issue openly and honestly and not in the usual flippant way that he normally does with his either I forget, I had brain fade or it was just some fun methods.
This is a serious issue with serious connotations and has been damaging to NewZealand internationally. It is not the time for spin doctors. It could be that it needs to be finalized in court.

Don't be a dinosaur bro.

Letting it drag on does more damage and fuels the fame seekers. It is better to deal with it and close it.

It was dealt with 16 pages ago when he apologised. Most people seem satisfied, there are a few hold outs though.

He has apologised, I have seen his explanation(s) and considering myself someone who reads people pretty well, I felt he was genuine.

I've reached the opinion that many GZ people will blindly defend an action which most people would consider out of order purely because of their political leanings and bias.

Amen, brother!

I've reached the opinion that these same GZ people find it easier to reach for over-the-top hyperbole to make their points rather than engage in a reasoned discussion, and will simply throw labels aimed as insults at those who they don't agree with (greenie / PC / nanny-state, leftie etc).

Reasoned argument - with the ability to divorce this from one's political beliefs - seems to be a tall order for many...

If you really think that someone who pulls someone's hair is "very dangerous", you must lead a very sheltered life.  I suggest you get out more

Thanks for your condescension, but nah I'm not that naive. I work in one of the more conservative organisations in the country so I'm used to it... But given that I visit GZ voluntarily I'm starting to wonder if I'm a bit of masochist!

He has done that.  He apologised at the time and has done so again on the radio, as well as explaining the context of the behaviour and saying he realises he was wrong and has learnt from his mistake.
The only people that need to move on are the left wing haters who are desperately trying to make political capital out of this

I see your statement that most people are satisfied, but I don't see a lot of agreement or disagreement.  So I can't help but think you are somewhat tied to your own bubble there assuming that everyone is of the same opinion.  I have seen one person who isn't satisfied, and I'll take her opinion as the one that matters in this case.

Again, trying to generalise those who feel there is 'something' to this case as just being 'left-wing haters' is simplistic and solely seeks to justify the common interpretation of this as a left-wing conspiracy.

I'm not doubting that many anti-Key people will be delighted in this occurrence, and I'm open to evidence that shows this has been planned by one or more parties from the beginning for maximum damage. But this doesn't take away from the ability (indeed need) to view this without always resorting to one's own political bias.

Have a read of the various comentaries and opinion pieces in the media including those from journalists and others who could never be described as 'left-wing' - many of them have raised concerns about Key's behaviour, and few suggest that Key's apology needs to be the end of the matter.

I certainly do not live in a bubble, I interact with dozens of people every day, it's a common topic of discussion, and I can tell you bar a single person, who seems to have read very little research on the matter, not one person I have spoken to seems that worried about it, including quite a few women.
If she is truly dis-satisfied she could explore her legal options, but until she has, actions speak louder than words.

Hard to believe JK Apologised and left her at that, if she was seriously unhappy still. If he apologised and she said "I don't forgive you, I'll never forget this, I intend to take you down", would he then logically claim that she seemed ok when he left her? She has obviously left him with the impression he has done enough to satisfy her concerns.

It seems some people won't be happy until he resigns, but based on that level of severity, someone who punches someone in the face should get the death penalty.

I'm out now, this discussion hasn't really progressed in the last 9 pages, no new points have been made that add any value to my mind. All that is left now is bickering and semantics.

Have fun

OK , how about a poll on this as it is a matter of personal opinion.

1. John Key should be prosecuted for sexual assault.
2. John Key should be prosecuted for assault.
3. John Keys behaviour was 'odd' and a little silly but should go no further than that (he has embarrassed himself and the country enough).
4. John Key behaviour was OK,  since he thought he was on ponytail pulling terms with the waitress and in a familiar environment. As such, it is a simple misunderstanding.
5. John Key was setup by people with political motivations.

Personally, I'm at 3.

It's a shame to see you leave this debate because you have put forward some good valid points. But I understand your frustration. With all the destructive crap going on in this world, it is hard to sit there and watch this world go backwards. If people would put the same amount of effort into the real problems of this world, rather than the effort they put into such stupid issues such as "pigtailgate", "paintergate" and "silkboxersgate", the world might just be a better place.

But I am a little biased now (being an ex-Brit, sickened by watching what is going on over there.)

(Emphasis added by me)
