GV27:

I would be happy to clean-slate anyone who has had a conviction for possession provided it isn't linked to any other type of offending (supply, dangerous driving, organised crime etc).

Inclined to agree. If the crime was soley possession and nothing else.

One thing I will give Ardern a huge amount of credit for, and that is standing by her stance she will not tell people how she voted till after the election, on the referedums. I think that is entirely the right decision, her stance alone could easily swing the vote and she has my respect for not buckling under the pressure of constantly being pestered by the press. Collins needs to stop asking her, it's driving me insane. It's a stupid thing to keep doing. She did it again tonight during the debate.

"The small-town takeout store worker who won over New Zealand -- and the world"

In the Morrinsville College 1998 yearbook, there's a prophetic phrase written in Comic Sans: "Most likely to become Prime Minister ... Jacinda Ardern."

It's a long read but I suggest reading it in its entirety before firing.

So my understanding was that Labour is campaigning on a tax to hit earners over 180K, and the Greens have said they have a bottom line policy of wealth tax to form a Government, Labour have publically stated it's a non starter. Assuming Labour can't govern alone, it will be interesting to see who blinks first. I think it creates a pretty serious credibility issue.

Edited to remove a redundant comment.

I was thinking the same thing. I am trying to imagine Labour partnering with ACT! But I think the Greens will roll over after they get a big enough bone. In politics, anything can be explained away.

Your understanding is incorrect. You need to do some more reading.

"Report card: Jacinda Ardern's government graded on the past three years"

The Guardian asked two experts or political commentators in each field for their assessments. I won't post any excerpt as it is a long read with lots of different topics - Environment, Housing, Covid-19 response, Poverty, Economy, Health, Education.

There's a lot of Morgan Godfrey and David Cormack in that piece - it's not exactly well balanced by more right wing views. It's about what you'd expect from the Guardian I guess, it's generally a left wing paper.

And yet, there is not a lot of "A" in that list.

How could there be? It's been a fairly mediocre government in many ways.

My point is that if you want a credible report card like this it should have a balance of views, not two left wing activists ranking the economy, among other things.

And my point is that your comment "it's not exactly well balanced by more right wing views." tries to make it look like unbalanced due to lack of right wing views - but even with the lack of balance, the reviewers didn't go all giving "A" all around. That, to me shows the views were balanced enough even if you think they were one sided.

Not really. It is unbalanced by right wing views as Ben Thomas (who is very much a centrist) is the only person in the piece who could be considered right wing.

Going around giving A for everything would just look silly and both Godfrey and Cormack are a bit more sensible than that. They are however both, very openly, heavily left wing biased. Morgan Godfreys introduction didn't mention his union affiliations.

Someone with more right wing views may have dropped a number of the grades they gave. They probably wouldn't give everything an F but probably would have been tougher on them. It would have made for a much more interesting and useful piece.

Ben Thomas is certainly not centrist as an ex National Party staffer, and frequent right wing commentator. He is absolutely right wing, and the fact you think it needs to be “considered” is amusing

Imagine my surprise.

Ben Thomas was the press secretary for Finlayson, who is hardly from the far right. He is a centrist and if you read what he writes and his media commentary then it is evident that it's from a centrist perspective. He criticises both sides fairly frequently and is generally fairly fair.

If you want to see lunatic statements take a look at Morgan Godfrey on social media running around calling people comrade and telling Nicola Willis that she should be locked up.

A report card on the Government that completely fails to mention Light Rail altogether? My eyebrows are raised.
