surfisup1000: OK , how about a poll on this as it is a matter of personal opinion.

1. John Key should be prosecuted for sexual assault.
2. John Key should be prosecuted for assault.
3. John Keys behaviour was 'odd' and a little silly but should go no further than that (he has embarrassed himself and the country enough).
4. John Key behaviour was OK,  since he thought he was on ponytail pulling terms with the waitress and in a familiar environment. As such, it is a simple misunderstanding.
5. John Key was setup by people with political motivations.

Personally, I'm at 3.

Agreed, #3 for me

Me too.

I mean this morning, I saw some guy picking his nose and eating it in his car, while waiting at the lights.

Its odd behaviour, especially in public, but I won't be reporting it to bloggers or the media.
He embarrassed himself enough, especially as his windows weren’t tinted.

I'm at 3 also but point 5 also (likely) applies.

I would punt for 3 but would add that he should apologise to NZ in general. However his Party may wish more that is up to them.

Here is a crazy notion, lets give peace a chance.

I'd put myself at a 2.8  I have no desire for anyone to bugger around charging people with assault, but I don't feel the PM should get to drive some girl to tears via ongoing harassment, then get to walk away with what she sees as a 1/2 assed apology.

I said I was out, but was curious at this, I was wondering what caused your change of heart from suggesting he resign and the suggestion it was assault? (That's a genuine question, not in any way a dig at you).

As time has progressed and more is known whilst I still feel that his behaviour is wholly inappropriate I feel what I stated above is the best outcome for all concerned and the chapter can be closed. We have some serious issues facing
NZ in the coming months and we don't need these types of distractions and smoke screens.

And just to settle something, I am a long time National Party supporter and John Key supporter

It seems some people won't be happy until he resigns, but based on that level of severity, someone who punches someone in the face should get the death penalty.

I'm out now, this discussion hasn't really progressed in the last 9 pages, no new points have been made that add any value to my mind. All that is left now is bickering and semantics.

Have fun

It's a shame to see you leave this debate because you have put forward some good valid points. But I understand your frustration. With all the destructive crap going on in this world, it is hard to sit there and watch this world go backwards. If people would put the same amount of effort into the real problems of this world, rather than the effort they put into such stupid issues such as "pigtailgate", "paintergate" and "silkboxersgate", the world might just be a better place.

But I am a little biased now (being an ex-Brit, sickened by watching what is going on over there.)

(Emphasis added by me)

Thanks for your comments, it's not really anything other than the fact I genuinely feel it's run it's course. We have all expressed our opinions, multiple times in some instances, but those who will change their mind have already done so, and those who won't never will (Both sides are included in this) , no point in beating that dead horse.

Ultimately I don't see much else able to be added.

This morning One News labelled it 'inappropriate behaviour' and referred to McReady as a 'serial litigant' so it seems sanity is finally coming to the fore.

McReady has an axe to grind with everyone, which probably stems from ligitation applied against him over the years.

If you're interested, do a quick search for his background and it'll pop up quickly. For one prominent example from IRD, click here.

Why do you think you deserve an apology?  It has nothing to do with you.  JK should (and has) apologised to the girl in question, even though her motives seemed questionable (and I am not taking anything away from the fact that it was wrong for JK to touch/pull her hair in the first place).  But I certainly don't think I am warranted an apology for something that has nothing at all to do with me.  And by that I am saying I don't think it alters his ability to run the country which is something that would have an impact on me.

Agreed. There are some that feel he has lessened NZ's reputation in international eyes, but personally I think that is incredibly unlikely. How many world leaders are going to decide not to trade with us because he pulled the pigtails of a waitress? Anyone who would make a decision based on that, shouldn't be in charge of a carton of milk let along the fortunes of a country.

In the grand scheme of things this is smaller than an Atom.

I personally don't give a toss about an apology but the whole episode has been getting coverage in overseas press so could dent our reputation.
