Well maybe I should have thought through the implications of your previous statements and tried to figure out what you meant by that. I guess it was in the context of your incorrect belief that parliamentary allowances were continuing for the recount.

I assume the racist part you are referring to is the offensive email which Harawira apologised for. As for the contribution to NZ maybe the best people to ask are his constituents.

It's also very difficult to quantify a contribution during opposition. Sometimes a principled opposition does contribute to moving the country forward. He certainly made a contribution to the discussion on food in schools.

+Nationally 'Internet/Mana' achieved 34,095 votes on the party list. Up .5% from 'Mana' vote last year - but hard to tell who was voting for what of course.

I don't say I agree with everything Hone says. But, I think has every right to be in Parliament.

I certainly wouldn't call him a political BS artist. He is definitely more someone who says what they think.

If you want a total waste of space, then look no further than Peter Dunne or David Seymour.

Those guys have no moral authority to be in Parliament at all. Yet, they cost the taxpayer considerably over a million dollars a year in salaries and perks.

Not bad when almost no one votes for your party!

I never want to see Hone in government but I thought he was useful in parliament. Ditto the greens. It's good to have the fringe represented on the opposition benches. It introduces a perspective that otherwise wouldn't be there.

I actually gained a bit of grudging admiration for Hone from that email in which he lambasted his IM colleagues for focusing on cannabis reform instead of child poverty. The man is clearly passionate, he just doesn't seem to know how to work with others.

Well the email was only one thing, there have been other times he has made comments which I'd consider racist, but I can't find them easily this very second.

I am not saying he mightn't have been helpful to his constituents, however my point is he made no contribution to NZ as a whole.

Your assertion he provided value re food in schools, is potentially true, but if he hadn't made such a fool of himself the whole time, how much more seriously would he have been taken and how much MORE Could he have achieved.

National have done deals that have given those in opposition some of the most important things they wanted, so long as they didn't outrightly conflict with National's policies. He could take taken his causes much further if he taken a more inclusive non obstructive standpoint.

He could have also (as Pita Sharples and some of the other Maori MP's have done) helped bridge the racial gap that still does exist.

He has been largely an unwelcome distraction most of the time, in my opinion.
