CanMay I say no to refugees?
FTFY.

The vibe I got from that article (and the photo with can upon can of tomatoes) is that A LOT of cans of tomatoes and chickpeas get donated because they are cheap and easy and people think they are being helpful.
If you have 2kg of tomatoes and 400g of mince, are you going to make a 2.4kg mincy-tomato meal? No...
There are meant to be a LOT of hungry people out there according to the Government. People begging on the streets, sleeping on cardboard boxes. I am sure they wouldnt say no to some tins. I know my pantry always has several tins, and I would be happy to take some more.

Well, no, though the answer to his question is obviously, yes, since he did.
"Can you get me a hot drink please"
"Yes I can, the the question is, WILL I?"
We must be running out of things to argue about.

Aaargh - yes sure he can literally say it ("Can I say no to refugees?").
It (my comment) was more of a swipe at the failings British public (aka private) school system - from a colonial upstart stirring the marmalade pot. One should have been educated to know that in formal "queen's English", that was a very naughty thing to say. Still, there might be pleasure in the subsequent spanking from the master.

Don't be ridiculous.

I understood. I was being just as pedantic in kind :)
Here is a crazy notion, lets give peace a chance.

But add a can of lentils (another item some charities would prefer not to receive) to that 400g of mince and you stretch it out to make a larger and healthier meal ...
If you visit some of the poorer parts of the world, pulses like chick peas and lentils are a mainstay of nutrition.

Unless you're "paleo".
MikeB4: Women fleeing violent and abusive relationships don't need crap about not being able to use some tinned food
As possibly the only person here who may have spent time in a women's refuge as a child, I can assure you first hand, you don't care what they give you, you are grateful.

I think I would stay at Aunties next time....sounds like a better menu of fast food.

Paleo is a fad, largely adhered to by the WWWs (worried-wealthy-well).

That's not an argument, it's just contradiction.
