I think she has done the right thing and it was probably jump before being pushed. 

She was just not up to the task, she said I am just like you I am a human being and that is true but you have to be more than that if you are going to be a minster. 

I personally think she was to naive and just not ready for the position.

One could only imagine the crap load of pressure you would be under after being thrown out of cabinet then the blunder like that in the house, Bugger that I would rather have my sanity.

Agree. She was fired for sure, always the case, one issue too many this time. But yep, not fun in the public eye, the 10 times you do something good will be shot down by the 1 you didnt, or in her case more than one. Thats the way it is unfortunately

More than likely she could have been good, if kept in roles that she could manage, even if it was just backbench, she must have been ok, having been around for 10 years

That's a reasonable assumption.  (Especially considering that she's one of two Labour Ministers under the gun this week who are both List MPs)

If Curran resigned from parliament, and Meka Whaitiri also went as a result of the assault allegations, then we'd have two by-elections.

If Whaitiri's Ikaroa-Rāwhiti seat was picked up by a Maori Party candidate, then the Maori Party would have crossed the threshold for entering parliament, and could conceivably bring in a second MP.  (Their result was over the 1.1% threshold required for two MPs)

A swing of two seats away from Labour and potentially a three seat advantage to the opposition would be too great a risk.

Yep. I think they are 5 in front so losing two seats is a pain but they still govern, but the list hangover or whatever its called I think you are referring to, that matters

Why?

RNZ would have wanted the TV channel to have lots and lots of Te Reo, because they know that Te Reo has become a 'sacred cow' in NZ, and is a guaranteed way to ensure funding.

Sorry, but what is the objection to that? Is it not one of the official languages of this country? I'm surprised everything here isn't subtitled like it often is in Europe. People might learn something about the other cultures that make up this country.

Not going to argue whether she should have resigned or not but this comment made by the Leader of the House astounded me.

In there Chris Hipkins said

"Because they are also MPs and citizens and people will be used to contacting them through their gmail (or other email) accounts.

"It is good practice on these occasions to cc any government business emails to their parliamentary emails (but not necessary as they are subject to the OIA in any case)."

I find this unbelievable. All MP's have their emails provided by Parliamentary Services and I can't believe they don't provide mobile access to email via secure devices like an Iphone or Android phone running something like Outlook for IO/Android with some sort of secure logon mechanism. Or they could be using Good For Enterprise.

In my personal experience when accessing a corporate Exchange server I either used Good For Enterprise, OWA for Microsoft Authenticator and in the least secure situation, just adding the Exchange email account to the phone's email client.

To say MP's need access when travelling and to use Gmail and then CC your Parliamentary accounts makes a mockery of Parliamentary Services secure email services.

Next they will be providing guidance on how to setup your email server in the garage for when you travel :-) 

Wellington rumour mill is in overdrive about the content of those gmail emails: More to come ... further to fall etc etc

No idea if any of of it's true but the speculation sure is fun.
