DonGould:
15% CGT?

While CGT is on the table National is in government.

I think that National is going to be forced to bring in CGT or face huge economic issues over housing.

The problem is that people (and corporations) can buy houses, rent them out to make enough to cover outgoings, and then sell them to make a huge untaxed profit. So long as that position continues, there will be continued demand for investment property. And of course NZers are unable to compete as far as purchasing goes, so they fuel the rental market some more.

To make matters worse, the market is open to anyone in the world, so there is effectively infinite demand.

Worse yet again, all the profits are being shipped off overseas, so that the NZ economy doesn't grow.

I suspect that CGT is more palatable to National's backers, and therefore National & JK, than restricting foreign ownership.

DonGould:
You want to talk about rights?  Let's talk about the children who are frightened in their own homes?

Let's talk about the kid who's parents are clearly so poor that he doesn't even have decent sox to wear in winter, to school, that's in my sons class?

Let's talk about the so many other more important issues.

This one really need to be put to bed.

Agree with all of this. And I wish the government would focus on problems like this at home rather than spending money and lives fighting wars overseas that have nothing to do with us, or spying on its citizens to prevent from the 'potential' of terrorism (When we have experienced zero terrorism) when people are suffering and dying every day through poverty and domestic abuse (to name a couple).

What war are we fighting that has nothing to do with us?

Here is a crazy notion, lets give peace a chance.

This post actually made me laugh out loud. Should we wait till there is terrorism on local soil before we act? Surely you can't be serious? We are global citizens and therefore we should participate in doing what we can to remove evil where ever it is in the world.

There is plenty to be done within NZ, yet here we all are discussing for 24 pages a waitress having her hair pulled. Shows how much we really care about all the other stuff. What chance of getting solutions do the real issues have when this issue makes the first 5 pages of any newspaper.

Hows about we actually do something real about things that ARE happening in NZ right now, like the women and children who are killed every year at the hands of their partners in domestic violence incidents.

By involving ourselves in other wars we make ourselves a target.

Firstly, technically our Forces are training not fighting. Secondly, our Government was requested by Iraq to assist, lastly we are all involved in this conflict.

But we should return to topic.

NZ already acts in these areas, though unfortunately it doesn't seem to be enough. I'd like to know what you'd have the Government do additionally you think would be more effective?

I am wondering if you a pro prevention? Because wouldn't that be exactly what "spying" would be for terrorism?

Also do you have some stats, for the women and children who are killed by domestic violence in a year?

Yeah!  Someone who seems to get my point of view.

I wasn't trying to minimise this issue at all.  Like you, it just strikes me that we're ignoring bigger issues to focus on this one.

I fully agree there's an unacceptable power emballance that leaves this woman powerless.

But she's not nearly as powerless as a child without sox.

Technically? lol

They either are or they aren't.

When you deal with issues of war, that is not a word to use.

Not surprising at all.

That is the global side of it.

It still doesn't look nearly as bad as piece on Tony Abbott:)

Well you Aussies voted him in. Has been pretty predictable so far I've thought. I could almost have written the script for how it was going to go.
