@freitasm since we're off-topic anyway...I saw you mention Jair Bolsinaro earlier in the thread. From memory you're from Brazil originally - I have heard the bloke described as the "Trump of the Tropics"...would this be accurate?

It makes me wonder how people like him (and Trump, come to think of it) get into office in the first place.

I think it has to do with how politics have been working for a while now. It is typically a beauty contest more than a contest to find the people best qualified to run a nation.

She is also defending her decision in 2013 when, as Justice Minister, she removed a review of counter-terrorism laws from the Law Commission's work programme saying "there does not appear to be any substantial or urgent concerns arising from the operation of the [Terrorism Suppression] Act".

Isis only came to prominence a year later and a lot of security agencies didn't foresee the rise of a terrorist entity that had slick social media use and the ability to rapidly distribute material. Holding that against Collins with the benefit of hindsight seems a bit much, given they've offered support to the government to pass the updated legislation under urgency.
