So.... literally nothing happened. Powderkeg, or just the Labour bros on Twitter causing mischief?

Could be both. We'll find out in due course.

I wonder if History might repeat itself. If you look through history a government/party who have been in power through a major international event tend to stay in power for the whole event and then get voted out when everyone wants to forget about the event and want a fresh start including a fresh government.

This is unhinged. I can understand why Collins doesn't like Wiles, she's openly pro-labour/greens, but what good does she think will come of this?

It's back to her roots with that piece of trash Slater.

Yea. My jaw just kept dropping as I read more and more of her comments. The clincher was "and I doubt it".

Could have just been a wry 'rules for thee but not for me' or similar, but no, we got..... this.

I wish this thread would be focused on Covid, health and the economy. All of which to me, appear to be going as well as can be expected. If Wiles, like Clark, was a dick then sobeit. But are we talking a problem or is it, lets bag her/it/them

I've erroneously posted in the past, 2 weeks after March 26 2020 when someone said "its too long it's too much". Politics I guess but its factual. Best to focus on where we are, the politics can be decided next election.

I feel at times National has been unlucky that there's been more scrutiny of them in opposition than there has been of the catastrophic policy failures of the current Labour Government. Sometimes that has been entirely unwarranted, and the media has let the Government trot out the 'nine long years of neglect' line far too often to defend policy they ended up waking away from or just putting on the back-burner indefinitely.

But at this point, Collins is attracting this scrutiny. She's not making points in any sort of strategic fashion, she lacks the wry subtleness that can be so effective, when saying so little can draw attention to just how much the Government needs to keep saying to spin its abysmal non-Covid track record into something resembling credible and capable.

Who after Collins? I like Bishop, Willis, Stanford. But two of the three are Wellington MPs with little real grasp of Auckland issues, and Erica Stanford is so effective that putting her in change of basic party functions would be taking away one of their few, untarnished voices who can actually score points.

Re-electing Goodfellow, failing to allow a conscience vote on conversion therapy, no clear plan for Auckland infrastructure or housing beyond unwinding tax policy is not the sign of a party that is ready to lead an opposition, let alone lead a government.

Colour me unsurprised. With friends like that, who needs enemies?

A toxic relationship.

Whoever thinks this is a good think for the party is really disconnected from reality.

The crazy part of this is that there is a case to position Wiles as a partisan actor. She was quite open about her politics during the election campaign. She's been very consistent in not criticising the government even when their positions didn't align with other experts, like with pre departure testing. Thomas Coughlans paywalled column in the herald makes this case.

Collins went straight for venal cheap insults and ignored the far more valid points that could have been made if she wanted to discuss Wiles. It makes her look cheap and petty.

She also has the fatal flaw most technocrats have, which is 'we should listen to the experts in their fields' but then proffers opinions up on things she has little training in, like economic issues.

You would think a National Party wanting to show a government and civil service as being aloof and disconnected from the issues faced by ordinary Kiwis at the coalface blah blah blah would go for this instead of fat jibes.

At this rate we're about a week away from Judith Collins busting out 'Your Mum' jokes.

Judith Collins "Trumpian" behaviour towards Dr Siouxsie Wiles is the latest try to improve her profile . Unfortunately she hasn't much more to offer at a time the Govt is stuck in a rut.
