networkn: Well as expected it all back fired and he ended up with even less votes. Ding Dong the witch is dead!

Sadly, it didn't backfire at all... Hone got paid for longer, which is what it was really about.

That is just incorrect. A recount does not extend parliamentary allowances. We established that on page one.

But on the plus side, even more people think he is a muppet which damages what little credibility and therefore lowers the chances he will ever have any real power!!!

Harawira claimed that not conceding on election night (saturday September 20th) and waiting for the result to declaration day (Saturday October 4th) extended the parliamentary allowances. He was incorrect about that. Parliamentary allowances continue until declaration day in all circumstances. I expect he received incorrect advice about that. It is his responsibility and for that you can level some criticism.

Harawira did not claim that parliamentary allowances continue until until after a recount is finished. That implication was more or less invented in the Stuff article.

And I think to be fair, his motivation for purportedly continuing to enjoy travel perks, was that he could travel around visiting supporters.

Ah geez.

The guy is every bit the leech that it's been the suggestion on multiple times.

Disgraceful, but sadly 100% unsurprising.

My wife's expense claim for the last month and half were in excess of $23,000.00. Its getting expenses to do business out there.

Difference is you are likely providing tax revenue related to that, he is providing little except entertainment value for the very easily amused.

Cloud spending continues to surge globally, but most organisations haven’t made the changes necessary to maximise the value and cost-efficiency benefits of their cloud investments. Download the whitepaper From Overspend to Advantage now.

He has a fairly large electorate and also the furthest north. So his his travel budget should quite rightly be calculated as the sum of all other MP's travel budgets and then divided by the 5 Maori electorates to make it equal. Just kidding. ; )

His expenses would be higher in an electorate where voters are poorer, less literate, and more geographically spread than most.

A requirement of Te Tai Tokerau is travel to many smaller 'face to face' gatherings rather than large 'town hall' meetings.

And this 'last spend up' isn't a farewell..

Hone's building the foundations of his next few years of activism on treaty issues, Maori health, housing...
And convincing more of his supporters to vote.

He has a lot more support on the ground that his polling numbers showed.
Expect him to return - phoenix like - at the next election ( sorry networkn! )

What did she do to run up that size of bill? International travel?

networkn: I can't believe people like him are allowed anywhere NEAR the political process.

I can't believe you would consider excluding people like him on the simple basis that you do not like him.

Hasn't someone written a book revealing a whole bunch of people that are systemically damaging to New Zealands political process, one in particular is still in denial about which hat he was wearing. Hone by comparison is a drop in the bucket and a relatively honest one who had a bit of empathy for hungry kids

Now this =>, http://www.nzherald.co.nz/opinion/news/article.cfm?c_id=466&objectid=11347187 , this really is the epitomy of what is wrong with politics in NZ !.
