Didnt read her blog, but looks like she made it clear she didnt want him to do it.  If she feels strongly about it, she should lay a complaint with the police.

Surely this would the the 'right' approach to establish fact from fiction and resolve the matter in an indisputable manner?

Easy to see the image repeating and repeating in a gif. He did apologise for his actions.

I think the point is not so much whether he apologised or not as much as that, as the Prime Minister, he should have known better. We teach pre-schoolers not to pull hair.

lol now he pulled the hair?

You obviously didn't read the blog post I linked to.

The blog post is about John Key repeatedly pulling a waitress hair even after being told by the woman that it was not something she was comfortable with.

The animated is gif is just another situation where he appears touching someone else's hair.

Read the blog post then comment.

This is political...being pushed by the Green Party and no doubt if we were able to dig deeper we would see more political motives inspired by spin doctors the political parties all employ to score points against whoever.

It was probably an automatic type action on his part after having a daughter....I would hate cameras on me most of the day trying to pick up one mistake.

Matt, the story is not about the gif that was posted (which is 12 months old now). It was about the story posted today on the Left W(r)ingers Blog - The Daily Blog.

It is especially funny watching some of the developing specimen comments such as -

"The man is a psychopath, he will know who this girl is, given his position I do hope she is now living offshore somewhere…." Oh dear me.

So you rather dismiss someone else's account because you don't agree with the political leanings of the person publishing it?

So you rather have no justice for someone if she supports a party you disagree with?

Again, did you read the post at all?

And this is the attitude that would prevent her taking a case to the police. The victim blame mentality is rife in NZ, just ask any Refuge worker.

Here is a crazy notion, lets give peace a chance.

KiwiNZ: I can see calls for his resignation. I ask myself what would he do if this were one of his Ministers or a member of one of the other parties.

... or Aaron Gilmore?

Wow, so it sounds like in your eyes the PM has a free pass to do whatever he likes because any time he's accused of anything it must just be lies and spin from his political enemies?

... and your position on this is not at all influenced by your own political beliefs??!! Further, simply because one or more group with a political axe to grind are making capital out of this story doesn't mean it's irrelevant fluff. (To disimss an issue simply because it is being used politically is just bizarre.)

As pointed out this was a matter of hair-pulling, which was repeated even after the woman made it clear to him it was unacceptable.

This is the PM, FFS - the power imbalance bewteen the two parties is immense, and also needs to come into play when assessing the seriousness of Key's actions. Kudos to the woman for speaking out, as how common is it for such behaviour in these circumstances to go unreported, whether it be relatively minor or something like rape...

Well it took 2 pages longer than I predicted before the R word was mentioned.

He has apologised. At this point it's up to the woman if she wants to pursue it, but I'd be pretty surprised if we see any more instances of it after today. Obviously he needs to keep his hands to himself. I think it's pretty likely that is clear to him now.

No I don't think it's assault, yes I do think it's inappropriate if she indicated she didn't like it, no I don't think it needs a national discussion unless it continues after today, and no I don't think there was any intent to be creepy or for it to be sexual.

I want to start by saying I'm not defending Key's actions - what he did was inappropriate, immature, more than slightly creepy, and would be from anybody let alone our country's leader - but I think using words like assault and (from comments to the orginal story) bully and sociopath are a little harsh. Maybe according to a dictionary definition they are correct, but I would think that assault should include some sort of intent to cause harm or to intimidate. I don't think that intent existed here - Key probably thought he was being funny, or charming, or "down to earth" when he was actually just being a complete dick.

In the story, the waitress says several times that Key pulled her hair but she didn't say anything because she shouldn't have to. I agree 100% that shouldn't have to, anyone should know better than to think it's OK touch anyone univited, but the fact that he did something so stupid and childish a number of times means in this case she probably does have to.

1st time: [Thinks] OK, that was weird. The PM just pulled my ponytail. WTF?
2nd time: [Thinks] He obviously thinks this behaviour is OK - I think it's not.
[Speaks] "Could you please not do that again? I really don't like it. Thanks."
[or, with attitude] "Pulling a girl's hair? What are ya, five? How about you stop the sexual harrasment and just get on with running the country..."

Actually, she hasn't spoken out yet. She is hiding behind an anonymous post. She/He/It could be anybody at this stage. IF she/he/it is serious, then they should be reporting this to the police rather than trying to get political mileage from this, because that Left W(r)ing Blog is just that - a political blog, no more, no less.

Until such time as this becomes factual, I shall reserve personal judgement.

I know that if I did this to someone at my place of work for example, I would be up for bullying or harassment at best, and possibly sexual harassment.

So you folks saying his behaviour shows a hair fetish and he's acting in public on this to satisfy his own desires? And because it was all done without violence, it's ok then? Are you saying violence only exists when punchs are exchanged?

Or is this political too?
