networkn:The lipstick on a pig thing was an excellent example. JA herself said she wasn't offended. If she wasn't offended, did we need a pitchfork-wielding crowd marching the streets?

It's no surprise to me that many women felt offended by the comparison, or felt that Morgan was being a dork. Apparently that came as a surprise to many here.

I think the point here is that Morgan was not comparing Ardern to a pig. He was saying that the pig was the Labour Party and JA was the lipstick. But people just saw 'pig' and 'Ardern' in the same sentence and decided the latter was being compared to the former. Basically, people can't read, but that is another issue.

Exactly.

At worst he is saying Ardern was superficial and a cosmetic change to the labour party (a valid viewpoint).

The people leading the offendedness charge on Ardern's behalf almost certainly comprehended that.  But they also knew they could dupe a large number of people people into thinking a rich-white-male (Morgan) had called Ardern a pig.

If Morgan had compared the new United future leader (another white-male) to lipstick on a pig, it would have been 'OK'.

Its very typical of the social media hype, people will only read what they want to see and write whatever pops into their heads. I am a little guilty of that at times.

Ardern was not offended by the comment. Yet there are many people who would have been offended by the exact same phrase. It is logical they felt some offence also.

Personally I saw no pitchfork wielding mobs. Perhaps there were. Social media is known for extreme individual reactions. Was there a tag for it?
