Why didn't Nikki bring it in, in the 9 years she was in power?

Dumped? It doesn't go far enough. So its not dumped, its supported, but it needs to do more

Labour promise unit title review and reform

The bill was drawn from the ballot by random selection last term and on the campaign trail a major review of the Unit Titles Act became Labour Party policy.

Deputy Prime Minister Grant Robertson also voiced support for Kaye’s bill at an Inner City Wellington meeting in August.

However, he had similar concerns to Twyford and believed a comprehensive review of the whole act was needed.

With the election done and dusted, National’s new housing spokeswoman Nicola Willis is urging the Government to press ahead and adopt National’s bill as its own in the interests of speed.

Ok, so I guess its doesn't go far enough but lets do it anyway? Quicker is better than proper?

They dumped National's reforms and didn't have anything on the work programme - this came out of the biscuit tin so they're talking about it.

I note Stuff.co.nz has done a liveblog feature today talking about housing, which is all well and good, but not that much bloody use to anyone after the election as opposed to before.

Labour has done nothing on this at all? No plan no policy no nothing?

I agree with the bolded. I assume you refer to each election and not just the last? If just the last, then why do National and previous Labour get a free pass on housing prices? They are hardly new news. yes I do recall that in 2017 there was no housing crisis

I suspect the media spend with newspapers (e.g. real estate liftouts etc) is probably substantial - maybe it's time we started viewing some of the coverage of housing issues as being less than impartial.

What was the alternative project, after 9 years, and plenty before that of house price rises? What was that called? Market driven economy perhaps? No Housing Crisis perhaps?

Seems ok to me, there are no secrets as to the many reasons in play. Everyone is concerned. I mean, now, everyone are concerned. The only issue I have with these articles (as they all say the same things) is lack of knowledge, as today or yesterday someone said that net migration this year is low, surprise surprise. Apparently the MIQ incoming isn't relevant enough to comment on, but that just poor journalism

A great problem to have, from memory?

And to think Bill English would have been PM if he'd just said "We have a housing affordability crisis and we'll pull every lever we can to stabilise it".

Interesting stats out from REINZ today - November sales ballistic:

In Auckland the median price hit $1,030,000, up $30,000 in a month and up by $145,000 (16.4%) since November last year...

This is terrifying.
