Boy, it's amazing to me what people will do to explain away the coalition delivery failures. Almost anything goes with some people (not just here but in general given recently polling results) it would seem.

Trying and failing is ok to a point, but when BILLIONS are being invested, it's not acceptable to not get reasonable returns. Kiwibuild should be scrapped and JA & Co should sincerely apologise. It was poorly thought out and even more poorly implemented. Housing Minister should go. Before someone spouts that it's Labour so it sucks, that's BS, I'd be furious if National put this plan together (though I seriously doubt they would have). I predicted from 6 months prior to the election it would be a disaster.

NZ is now starting to have pressure applied by China, unsurprisingly. It will be interesting to see how JA and WP manage this particular situation.

I'll be really interested to see what reporting is done on the education lolly scramble, and whether it's resulted in higher enrollment, pass rates and money spent to date. I haven't seen anything to do date, does anyone have any numbers?

I agree on what I bolded. Its the same when explaining National away is it not? Its really pot calling the kettle black, and thats been noted her by others more than once, including a moderator

You once said they should have  set a lower target for KB then nailed it, now you say its useless. Its not useless at all, it is falling well behind as lack of demand and why is that? lack of buyers due to the housing boom that got ignored, its trying to pick up a mess that was left behind.

Billions WILL be TEMPORARILY invested, dont make it look like money down a sinkhole when its capital being used . What is Nationals policy to manage housing for those that are now locked out? Nothing

It would also be helpful to talk about what National would do, but you NEVER read that here. Why is that? Yes, the markjet will sort it out, as always. Best to criticise THEN add the National's better policy

Educational lolly scramble? Do you mean the free education at Uni for the kids who can;t be bothered furthering themselves so will happily hang out at Uni for a couple of years for free and with no income?  Off course not they will just get a job. Those that cannot make it to Uni and now can and can now get ahead, no issue with that. Talk lolly scramble talk Labour-esque tax cuts to buy votes, tax cuts we cannot afford

Pressure from China, how is that Coalition related? Its NZ related. From what I have seen they will manage that fine, as would JK have

And am I defending them? Yes. So what? At least I am not defending them as I am marries to them for life, no matter what.

Ensure to add the National direction on any policies, so there is a debate. The list is not long

The defense policy statement lacked current diplomacy. I see that as a diplomatic failure. Can't really do anything about that in practice except rebuild and refocus.

The gcsb/huawei thing I fully expect is USA sending a bunch of 'classified' photocopies of the Bloomberg article about grains of rice that was refuted by all the major tech firms. If that's the case I'd expect gcsb and the minister to make the right decision on that. No doubt NZ is under heavy pressure from the Trump admin to do all kinds of silly stuff.

Personally I think there should be more recognition in practice from China that it's a rock and hard place for NZ and it will be a disadvantage for both countries if bilateral ties and the relationship does not move forward during this time.

I can't see that. Its a different culture, what is annoying for some is deep seated for others. We are stuck between China that we want to work with and USA who we have to work with. China wont make much of a concession IMHO. Its up to NZ to make amends, then we have the US on our back as well as Five Eyes that we are a part of.

Yeah, started with the only point but expanded your others !

On that, China has trade issues outside of orange man. Growth slowing, tensions in the South China Sea; its all happening right now for them. While having a super proud culture is great it’s not so great if big brother isn’t happy. Might flex muscles as a reminder? Doesn’t strike me as managing being prodded very well

I concur, especially after watching the speeches in Parliament this afternoon. JA said nothing new and gave no new policy etc. Bridges spoke well(imo) and highlighted the many policy failures including Kiwibuild, Shane Jones lolly scramble, free fees for students leaving no money left for teachers, health sector in turmoil..strikes everywhere and of course a uncontrolled minister of foreign affairs as well as the economy slipping.

One item that stuck out was that Jones lolly scrambles to date have created 50 jobs in the regions at the cost of hundreds of millions and he has created over 100 civil servants in Wellington to administer the fund.

I know its all politics and hot air, but I thought Bridges did a decent job today as opposition leader.

It’s not easy being a supporter of the governing party but I’ll watch the speeches tonight!

And give my considered opinion..... :-)

Seems to be a bit of outrage about Winston mocking Simon Bridges' accent; not exactly out of the 'kindness and compassion' playbook, but it did remind me of the time Tamihere called Gerry Brownlee fat and Gerry Brownlee called him black.

It left seems quite content to be rude and personal quite a bit. It started with Kelvin Davis and hasn't really let up since.

Weird that they've given up on the YouTube channel?
