Considering NZ is a very multicultural place with almost every culture represented here already, let's call it job done.

That was my take too - not that they're Albanian but there's 5 million of them.

Although hearing about the Albanian gangs involvement in European organised crime would make me very nervous if that's the way it was going to roll.

The behaviour of Albanian gangs that are not in Albania is hardly characteristic of Albanian culture. Think about the Irish and Italian and Jewish gangs and gangsters in New York and Chicago in the late 1800s.

Yes, 5M immigrants would change NZ's culture. But, if our culture is so much better now, then those immigrants would adopt most of it within a generation or two. If their generation is so much better, then we should adopt the best parts of it.

For instance, fifty years ago, you would be lucky to buy a cup of instant coffee in NZ. Nowadays we have great cafes that add a lot to our culture.

Albanians seem to have a bad reputation, also from their Stalinist past. But how many are actually criminals? How many New Zealanders are members of the Mongrel Mob? I have never known any Albanians that I am aware of, but I know several Russians and they are delightful people, though I'm not too keen on Putin. I would say that large numbers from any culture almost certainly would be enriching, and would definitely make this a very different country.

Multiculturalism doesnt work. The av person is racist to some degree , we see that every day. We arnt willing to accept peoples acting differently>
Minorities : also racist btw .

We've had millions of years evolving that way. We look after our own small tribe & mistrust other tribes.
Perhaps stop pretending otherwise. Ask chinese, Maori , PI's if they think NZ has racist tendencies & you get a different answer to asking whites .

We are happy to accept immigrants, as long as the conform to our way of life .

How about 5 million American, Republican voting, NRA members? Enriching would not be the word I would use in that situation.

How about we use mutant superpowers to blast the Burmese army out of existence? I don't see the point of a whatif argument like yours. But ok, if you want to play such a silly game, very few if any of those gun lovers would make it past Immigration on character and health grounds*, and they wouldn't be allowed to bring their guns so they wouldn't want to come anyway. The three who did get in could all go open up fast food joints and I'm sure a few New Zealanders would find that an enriching experience.

*Edit: clarification added: Immigration places a limit on obesity.
