Meanwhile, Ardern aces an Australian poll

It seems to be a tradition, they liked Key better than their local politicians too.

Off topic, but I can't see great political happiness and future stability coming in Aus, the most preferred PM only manages 14%.

Seems to be toxicity blended with public ignorance, or indifference. 25% say they don't choose from anyone as preferred PM. They cannot see a valid PM on offer. On another poll, 25% cannot even recognise who the current PM  is. Pretty bizarre

Don't shoot me, I'm only the piano player etc.

In all seriousness, the easiest way for the Greens to avoid criticism is to start actually getting some runs on the board. The electric vehicle subsidies have been 'coming soon' for about a year and a bit now.

People will find fault where they want to. I think the Greens could have done better, but it is their first time in government and Winston can be hard to work around. Even so, I would not say they have scored no runs. A big one is the move away from fossil fuel exploration, which is pretty substantial however you feel about it. Another is drug law reform. Some here will take cheap shots by sneering at the 'pot referendum', just as I could comment yet again on National's flag referendum, but it is of course about much more than that, particularly shifting drug policy from a criminalisation focus to a health one. But don't let that get in the way of a snide comment.

IMHO the Greens shoot themselves in the foot when they go hard against extra hydro stations. While the reasons to do that are clear, the effect is on a small area of the environment, and the payoff is we could literally make ourselves 100% green in a matter of a few years construction. It makes as much sense as removing a few hydro power stations we already have and planting them out in native plants. They could gain a huge amount of credibility if they looked at the big picture. If they always polled strongly, they would have more opportunities to play in Parliament, and as a coalition partner

Got it, there is no legitimate criticism of the Greens that isn't a 'snide comment' or an instance where you'll just point out something that National did when they were in power that actually has nothing to do with what the discussion is.

It's hard not be to snide, when the Greens gave up protecting the Kermadec Reserve, which was a "green" iniative, but managed to get a "weed" referendum, which is a different type of "green" initative.

They had the power, you keep minimizing the fact the Government couldn't have been formed without them, but it looks from the outside, like anything was worth compromising, so long as they got to be in Government.

If people are going to take pot-shots at referendums, they should at least be consistent. In any case, my comment wasn't directed specifically at you, but was meant more generally.

Credit where credit is due, I applaud the Governments firm stance on the striking teachers.

I support teachers, but they need to understand there are a lot of demands on the Governments coffers and as a parent affected by these strikes, I support the Government standing strong on this, regardless of the fact it means my kids aren't at school and we have to find alternative care for them during those times.

I feel the offers in front of them represent a reasonable improvement to their original situation.

I heard this morning that in 2018 (I think) there were 70+ deaths related to driving under the influence of drugs. That's 1/5th of the total! That seems shocking.

By their own public statements around the Capital Gains Tax, they don't deserve to be in Government. I would have thought the truly honourable thing here would have been to revoke your agreement with Labour and trigger a snap election. But I'm sure in 2012 National something something Saudi sheep or whatever.

Not being affected by this, I haven't really looked into it, but you may be right. On the surface the offers do seem reasonable. Is it about money or conditions in the classroom?

It's both as far as I can tell. I really like the principal of the school my kids attend and he does a great job, but some of the claims he has made in school assemblies about teachers working conditions and pay are silly and easily provably incorrect, which all it does is hurt their case/credibility.

I can tell you something though, if you guys knew how much the senior doctors were being paid, to cover the junior doctors to get paid, you'd have pitchforks out I am sure.
