Did they say what the issue/fix was, I've only ever been getting under 500MB down, 450MB up, when changed from my 200 plan to Fibre Max :(

Was thinking it could be my modem but's an expensive Dynalink Taipan DSL-4320L.

I assume you mean TP-LInk DSL-4320?

I can't see it listed on any of the major sites that test WAN-LAN routing performance, but there are other threads here on Geekzone from people with the very same issue. It would seem like that router is incapable of routing anywhere near 1Gbps.

Price means very little when it comes to router performance, and just because something is expensive doesn't mean it is actually any good.

Oh that's a pity if it's definitely the modem, what's a recommended good one that definitely does 1GB and also has good wifi for throughout the house?

Thanks

Nope - because there is no such thing as "the best router" and depending on the size of your house expecting a single device to deliver coverage throughput is not a realistic expectation because to have "good WiFi" these days means 5GHz coverage.

There are plenty of threads on here discussing good options for routers and the pros and cons.

My speed issue is specific to Tauranga customers.

Voyager are upgrading some equipment this week, then migrating customers to the new link -- not sure how long this takes.

You could always test without your modem -- connect your pc direct to the ONT using a PPP connection, remember to set the vlan on your network adapter to 10.

@Note2luvr Your expensive D-Link TAIPAN DSL-4320L can't do Gigabit speeds. That's plain and simple. You need to upgrade your router to a more capable one.

While what Steve says is correct if you're currently finding the WiFi on this router fine generally around the house then consider grabbing the Cambium R195W (Here) as this router has pretty good WiFi performance (not the best) but the best thing is the price, and the fact it can route Gigabit absolutely no problems. Go Wireless have a setup guide on getting this going also Here.

Most routers sold in stores sadly can't route Gigabit without issues. That even goes for the expensive ones. If you wanted something a bit more advanced, that has good wireless then consider also the Ubiquiti Dream Machine. Yes, it is expensive but has many features under the hood including the ability to upgrade your WiFi in the future by adding UniFi access points.

Heya all,

Because I don't like to leave the topic in the dark ...

The problem noted by @surfisup1000 was caused by a capacity issue in the Tauranga region.
We have completed an upgrade to the region, which has resolved the issue.

If anyone was experiencing speed issues in the Tauranga region in the last few weeks (July-Aug 2020), please give it a re-test.
If you are still having issues, please let me know.
