That is what I thought when moving from Skinny to Slingshot. But I was offline for a day and the ONT showed no connection until it got fixed. Making sure now that the day I switch isn't a day I need to be online.

Skinny is owned by Spark.

Slingshot was owned by Vocus (as was Orcon and others).  Sky Broadband is provided by 2 Degrees, which is the brand adopted when Vocus bought the original 2 degrees business.

OK hopefully it should go smoother then. Interesting that there aren't as many actual ISPs as you think there are, due to all the brands operated by the same parent, and reselling

Yeah I'm also considering moving to Quic or some other ISP now, and for an extra $4.60 per week I might as well give Hyperfibre 2000 a try!

I currently only have the normal Fibre ONT, so would Quic organise with Chorus to upgrade my ONT to a Hyperfibre one and is that also free?

How long would the process take to organise a timely swap over or just also connect with Quic first and then ask to disconnect from Voyager?

I will also look at getting a Wifi7 Hyperfibre router (preferably Mesh) while I'm at it.

Been humming and harring about this for ages but this last increase has given me the finale push LOL.

I was also considering 2Degrees Hyperfibre as you get the awesome TP-Link BE85 WiFi 7 router as a free lease for the 12 month term contract, but does anyone here recommend them for Hyperfibre, I've seen some general slow internet speed comments during peak times and dropouts, etc, but hard to find a good lot of real feedback?

Cheers

To answer some of your questions.

1. Yes, you will need to upgrade. It can take a wee while. 6-8 weeks is not unheard of. Sometimes quicker though.
2. You would organise a connection with Quic then put in your cancellation at Voyager. Remember they require a 30-day notice period. So set Quic to connect in 25 days or something, then let Voyager know once Quic have confirmed the date.
3. Once you're on Quic, then initiate the Hyperfibre upgrade.
4. I'd personally go with Quic over 2degrees. The team put a lot of care into creating a great network and you know that they will try their best to fix any issues that arise, whereas with 2degrees, if you have a weird routing issue etc, good luck.
5. A lot Quic users actually have their own network stack, so a dedicated router, switch and access point instead of an all-in-one unit. This is the best way to go as you have complete control over your network. For example I have an Intel OPNsense box, into a Cambium switch and then into a TP-Link Omada access point. This gives me 2.5G networking internally with PoE and the WiFi access point is right where I need it to be etc.

There is also some easter eggs on their website with additional promo codes if anyone wants to go hunting 😊

I'm good at easter egg hunting but I've read just about every page on their site and didn't come across anything unusual.

I have no idea what I'm supposed to be looking for, any clue? How many 'somethings' are there to find?

Do they just give you a free $29 setup fee?

Cheers

I guess I'll be switching to Quic too. My Voyager price will move to $120 per month, which will make it one of NZ's most expensive providers.

Wow, I hope with everyone moving to Quic now we don't overload them LOL!

They gonna get surprised at the sudden influx of business ha!

This is surprising given they must be near the top end of the table for cost/month already?

It is the straw that broke the camels back for me. Going to be checking out Quic.

Done, cancelled plan with Voyager (1 month notice) and signed up with Quic.

@Note2luvr not going to tell you where they are but will tell you that you’ll need a PC and keep an eye out for some out of place things on their site. There are 4 of them.

Yep believe it or not they will be more than Spark after their respective increase on 1st Aug.

I do question if Voyager are severely bloated as a company - why can Quic who are visibly innovating be almost $20/month cheaper? I know they are more self support, but thats a considerable sum.

Agreed, is puzzling. Anyway, I've made the switch, just signed up and issued notice to Voyager.  I enjoyed Voyager, their service was good, but pricing is starting to get ridiculous.

Edit. LOL what a dumb graph - no scale! (The grey lines are at 2, 4 and 6%. The 2022 value is 7.17%)

mattwnz:

It is ridiculous because it is more than inflation

Is it? over the last 4 years?

I've made the move too. The new connection went live at 6pm.

I did have a minor issue... I couldn't access the portal without resetting the password (to the same one I specified when I created the account).

The e-mail said 2-3 business days for a static IPv6 assignment, which is a little bit disappointing. I assume I can set a PTR delegation for that once it's assigned.

IP reputation is 'poor' according to one of those IP reputation sites I checked, but it's not on any RBLs that matter, so hopefully it will be fine for outbound SMTP.

The latest price hike is coming from Enable, not the ISPs themselves. They’ve raised their wholesale rates, so providers have to pass that on.

Out of curiosity, how much are people actually willing to pay per month to stay connected?
