Last friday night someone pulled into a carpark beside my car while I was shooting some Aurora photos and ran the side of their car against my rear bumper, causing significant paint damage and scratches into the plastic. Luckily for them, this was before some other damage was about to be repaired, so the marginal cost of their damage is cheap ($132.50)
They stopped, gave me their name, admitted liability (to me), phone number etc and I took down their license plate. Unfortunately when I went to ring them Monday morning to let them know how much the repair would cost (have quote from the painter doing the main repair and I'm only looking for them to pay that additional amount direct to the repairer), the phone number didn't work. I may have taken it down wrong due to damn smartphone.
I have found the guy on Facebook but can't send a message and he hasn't accepted a friend request. Carjam shows the licence plate on the car matches the vehicle and I have found his name mentioned in Chch half marathon results and in a news article about the family emmigrating here many years ago.
I believe he gave me the correct info...
So how can I track him down? I know 20 years ago you could hand over a few bucks at the post office to get details but not sure if that's the case anymore. I work at Telecom and his name or family name almost certainly exists in our databases but that's utterly out of the question (I only mention it to shut down anyone suggesting it).
If I can get in touch with him directly, he won't have to involve his insurance company and everyone wins. If I can't, then I have to lodge another claim and he'll be stuck with additional costs.
I also have multiple witnesses to the incident.
