After all of this, I'm over cryptocurrency, but for the sake of completeness, here is a thread to setup AeroCloud's jhPrimeminer on linux, without a GUI, something I commented on before in previous threads.

If you're new to this, we have two other threads each a different client, here and here.
I also created some posts here on how to use each of the other tested clients on Ubuntu, my choice of Linux, although the clients may well work with most other distributions.
I haven't covered GPU mining for Primecoins yet, somewhat because there seems to be an absence of GPU miners out there and mostly because I just don't have a half decent GPU anywhere. I probably won't unless there is massive gains to be made - enough to pay off the GPU, at least.
After trying three different methods of mining and two different providers, I can say the following seems to be true, in my experience - They're all reasonably similar in performance and gains and extra cores seems to be negated with the luck factor - that is, my 8 core physical server doesn't get anywhere near 8 times as much prime number action as a single core - certainly, it does not pay for itself (I keep thinking about how an extra lottery ticket only increases the odds of winning very slightly, compared to the first). At the end of my month, I'll keep the better performing VPS nodes running and possibly shutdown half my fleet before the billing cycle renews.
After getting to about 30XPM, I started to trade the BTCe marketplace and in the last week I have increased my wallet by about 20% just from trading, certainly a cheaper route than mining but clearly one I couldn't have achieved without mining in the first place (although an argument for starting off with a cash injection is valid, too).
Check out my new post, Aero's client is most configurable and tunable by some arguments. It's been almost a month that I started XPM mining and aside from the slight financial gains (very slight) I have learnt a lot about managing large fleets of servers, dealing with VPS providers, compiling my own software and how to script some little problems away.
Hopefully I helped a few people make similar gains?
