Hi Everyone,

I am looking to get a new credit card and seeing what options are out there.

Which Credit Card rewards program do you use and why do you use it?
Whats the biggest advantage you get from it?

I am not looking for advice on my choice or "just go with the one from your bank" statements, just want to know what everyone is using out there :)

i just use ANZ's Platinum cashback. because we put most things on the credit card. We dont really do much flying so air-points was considered to be a waste of time.

Use BNZ GlobalPlus and kept using it after the change. It is now giving cashback and it worked well when we bought a new car and paid on the card...

ANZ platinum cashback. 1% cashback of yearly spend over $10K. I also get my yearly fees dropped to $0 after showing them the yearly spend.

Do whatever you want to do man.

Get the ANZ platinum airpoints, use it for a year then reevaluate options? You'll get 200 airpoints if you spend $1000 within first 3 months - 20% rewards, then 1 point for every $75 - 1.3% rewards. First year $0 fees. But if you don't use airpoints you'd be wasting your time, be better off with a cash back as previously mentioned.

It really depends what your requirements are. Checking the Canstar site is probably the best option if you're unsure what you want.

I have an ANZ Airpoints Platinum and also have a new Westpac Airpoints Platinum which I got just for the free year and bonus APD. I'll probably get about $500-$600 worth of APD over the 3 months so it was worth getting the card just for this.

Ive got a ANZ Platinum, fly frequently enough that the Airpoint dollars are used as soon as they accrue.

Get a couple of Koru lounge passes every few months which the other half uses when she travels alone instead of needing to join Koru club which is an added benefit.

A.

Westpac World Mastercard for me. Sticking with Hotpoints for now. I don't fly Air New Zealand.

Fee is waived if you spend $50k per 6 monthly. Also comes with free international lounge passes.

I fly Air NZ a lot so with the accumulation of airpoints and the AIR NZ Platinum card from Kiwibank, I get good value from my card and membership.

It all depends on your usage though...

Air NZ Airpoints Platinum here. I switched because it was free for a year, got some bonus Airpoints and good rewards return (1.3% as stated above). I don't really fly Air NZ (or anything) that much, but then I never used my old rewards points either. This way, at least my wife and I might be encouraged to holiday a bit more. I don't have a problem flying Air NZ. The Koru passes are a bonus. It's also good that the airpoints never expire as long as you have the CC.

Maybe I'll grab the ANZ card too...

So based on what you have said you spend 10K and get $100 back unless my maths is wrong. Seems a waste of time.

Umm, he's saying it's a minimum spend of $10k to receive the 1%. I previously had this card, and I'm sure one of the benefits of the Platinum over the standard is that there's no maximum reward, whereas the standard tops out at $300 (I think?). So, spend $100,000 on the card in a year and you'll get back $1,000 etc.

I switched over to a Kiwibank Airpoints Platinum a couple of months ago, primarily as it had the first year's fees waived, plus in future years I'll get 50% off through a union deal with the bank. The rewards at 1.3% are also better than the 1% cash back, so even though we loved the flexibility of getting cash back at the end of the year, airpoints (plus the free Koru passes for every $20k spend) will probably give us the impetus to travel.

ASB True Rewards Platinum - 1% back as true rewards dollars you can redeem in their crazy overpriced online store or at select retailers.

It accumulates - spend it on christmas/birthday presents and stuff at farmers.

We're not big flyers and find the Westpac/Warehouse mastercard is good.  Over 1% back and always find something you need with The Warehouse vouchers. It also offers the rewards dollars back as vouchers for other companies instead of Warehouse.

Can I ask how you got your yearly fees dropped to $0 ? I have spent about 70k last year and got 700 cash back but my yearly fees were obviously not dropped.

Exactly what I do. Kids have got lots of toys through this - very handy for birthdays!  Am an ASB customer so was natural to pick their card.  A lot of people complain that their reward partners dont suit them.  I say; use their petrol vouchers and bank the saved cash.
