Hi guys, what do you think is the best value credit card at the moment? There's quite a few to choose from, all with differing bonuses, values and fees!

I like the warehouse money - red card. It's got a 5% off at warehouse for anything. It's also got no fees.
What do you consider value? Getting airpoints or credit back or the cheapest interest rates / fees?
Banks are now doing zero fees / lower interest rates but you get zero perks

I find the airpoints plat cards are best due to the airpoints accrual and the free travel insurance. BNZ plat card (cashback) used to be pretty good it was the same cash back ratio vs the airnz airpoints plat card but they recently reduced the ratio. Or else it's the Amex freebie card, no annual fee but you get airpoints not as good as plat though and the Kiwibank Zero MC which has no annual fee, no perks either.

Because of how much I travel for work (and personal) - The Airpoints platinum has been pretty good for me.
As others have said though, it is best to shop around to find what is best for you and your needs.

I fibd interesting how "Platinum" Visa cards are so easy to come by now - even the Air NZ prepaid card is "Platinum" - that means this level don't give anything extra really. I wonder how many concierge requests they can work for all those card holders.
Card value? The one that can be used to pay (but can't be named in public) for some online streaming service that doesn't accept New Zealand cards is of great value to me ;)

We changed from an airpoints card to a onecard visa, purely because our circumstances changed to mean we weren't able to get away as much as we used to.
We get between $45 and $75 worth of grocery vouchers every 3 months which we have no trouble using.

I have a cashback Visa and get around $60 a month - this goes directly to daughter's savings account.

Who is your Visa with?
I know Amex is not as widely accepted in NZ as other major credit cards yet I find their Platinum Edge Credit Card quite handy for me:
3 reward points for every $1 spent at major supermarkets in NZ
2 reward points for every $1 spent at major petrol stations in NZ
1 reward point for every $1 spent other than above
reward points never expire; no reward program annual fee
free supplementary card, which accumulate reward points same as the main card
One return plain ticket every year on any domestic route
Complimentary domestic and international travel insurance when travel paid with Amex
Now the annual card fee is $149
I've also got a ANZ Cashback Visa, which only gives me 1% back for spends between $10000 and $30000, or $300 maximum cash back if I spend $30,000 a year on the card... and annual card fee is $60...
Kiwibank now has MasterCard zero
No account fee (ever) and low(ish) interest rate

sonyxperiageek: I thought it would be a good time to get a credit card before spending some money on flights and accommodation in my other thread as it will mean I can get at least some reward back.
I was looking at the AMEX Airpoints Platinum card but I couldn't figure out if they have an interest free period on purchases. If they dont, could one just buy it for a year, pay the credit card off immediately after using it to not accrue lots of interest, to then be able to get the free $200 Airpoints as well as the other benefits such as travel insurance and lounge passes? Also, there's no minimum amount of time you have to be on the card before you can cancel, right? And there's no minimum spending amount per year, right?
Had a quick look. Yes, the Amex Plat card provides 1APD per $59. Other plat cards are generally $75.
There should be a interest free period. Prob up to 4 or 6 weeks. Ie if your monthly cycle begins on the 15th of the month and you put a purchase thru on the 14th you're not gonna get that much.
No min spending - should be yup.
You may still be paying the $195 annual fee though. The first year may not be waived and this is also with other banks now it looks like unless it is stated.
Edit. Have you had an Amex card before? I think there is a 2yr stand down period or else you won't get the $200APD.
I like the cash back cards as well. I have the ANZ one $30k = $300, $60 fees, but looking at the BNZ platinum I think I might switch when the cash refund calculation next year finishes for me in August. $250 signup cashback bonus for spending a few thousand in 3 months is a great deal!
However another option you might like is the GEM Money card. 6 months interest free on all purchases over $250 is not a bad deal if you are buying something large (eg airfares) and pay in full on time.
$5000 extra sitting on your home loan is saving you 5% interest for 6 months. Most other cards are at most 60 days interest free. That is an extra $60 saved in interest charges. That sort of savings could work for some people.
However as I say I too like the cashback option :)
