eXDee: but imagine if someone created an "address lookup" tool online using that data. There would be mass outrage.

It already exists, its called a habitation index,

basically it lists every street in the electorate and lists all the registered voters by house,

They are not as commonly available as the regular roll, but each registrar of electorates has them and they are public documents also

I guess it is, but if you're 18+ you're required to be on it. It lists your FULL name by the way.

And if you think that's scary, there's also something called the "Habitation Index" which is usually sitting along side the Electoral rolls. This lists every street in the electorate, and indexes each house number in the street, and all of the voters full names at that address. Perfect for stalking a pretty chick you see going into her property!

That seems really unnecessary :/ I can't think of any good reason to make that publicly available. We are way OT now though :P

Some laws in NZ haven't caught up with others. The electrol roll and privacy is definitely a concern.

So anyone can opt out of being in the published roll? Why is this not told to you when you enrol!?
