I haven't had any problem with Paypal either. I found them quite helpful once during a dispute with a vendor.

kingjj: Then again, PayPal reckons there fraud level ("industry-leading loss rate") is less than 0.5 so I guess a few people out of a global user base puts it in perspective.

That's quite a lot still, <0.5% (use 0.4 for giggles) of 132M active users means you're looking at somewhere around 550k instances of fraud every year, or around 1500 every day (using "close enough" maths).

I've never had a problem with paypal, been using it for the last 5 years.
The email address I use for paypal account is only for paypal use. Never use it for any other purpose.
Helps reduce the risk of scammers picking up that email address.

Except that address gets shared with sellers who IME are the worst at getting compromised and the address harvested for spam.

I've found http://web.zippitypay.co.nz/ to be a good way to accept payment. No on going fees and you only pay per transaction and better still, they are based here in Christchurch!

Another 'no issues with using Paypal' here - started my account in 2000 and even got $5US from Paypal.
Used them 6 times yesterday and many times over the last month.

I have however received a few Policy Change emails that don't look 'quite right' but I never use the links in their emails anyway to check things out.

dickytim: my partner had just over $1,000 taken a couple of weeks ago.

Her laptop was compromised, Paypal were very good and she got it all back, some within an hour some took a little longer.

It was a bit scary at first, but she was happy with how easy PayPal made getting the money back for her.

I can't imagine it would be that easy with a bank!

BTW she has removed her credit card from that account now!

Actually, it's ridiculously easy with a bank. I've had to do a chargeback before (against Paypal, actually) and it was just a matter of filling in a form and emailing it to them, and they return the funds the next day while they investigate and eventually let you know "we've found in your favour, job done" (meanwhile, Paypal gets fees of like $75 USD assessed against it for losing a chargeback).

It is so long as you have a credit card as the source for your paypal you can chargeback against. If its funded from others paying you then its not as easy.
