Elpie: I recently spent a few thou on training for my dog. I know I will never regret it. She has just turned 2 years old and in a month of training she learned:
- pick up the TV remote, keys, or any item for which I have taught her the name and bring it to me
- take my socks off (she did start learning to put socks on so sometimes she takes them off and tries to put them on again)
- to bring my husband's wheelchair to him, navigating any corners and hazards along the way
- to take washing out of the washing machine and put in into the washing basket
- to pull a jumper off a person
- reinforced all the basic obedience commands

She taught herself how to turn the washing machine on and thinks this is a great game so I am encouraging her to do this on command (and not just when she wants to watch the washing going around). All in all, this was a very worthwhile spend.

Wow thats awesome, what breed is your dog ?

She's a Border Collie. They are smart dogs BUT they mature more slowly than many other breeds. 2 is still a pup for a Border Collie and one big advantage/disadvantage of them is that they can think for themselves and problem-solve. No such thing as blind, unquestioning obedience from them.

Yep, front loader ;) I always will have now that I have a dog that unloads it for me ;)

Err isn't the point of a washing machine to remove the dog slobber from your clothing? :)

Several years ago, my husband at the time was made redundant. Family and friends were horrified when we said we intended to take the opportunity to travel for several months. 40's, unemployed, no prospects in sight (because we weren't looking) and we decided to hit the trail and travel overland from Istanbul to Cairo. Tensions rose sky high when we were in Turkey and we were advised not to continue on overland but chose to ignore this and went to Syria. Because of the threat of war at that time we never did get to Cairo but we spent several weeks longer in Syria than initially planned and really got to know the country. So, Istanbul to Cairo turned into an extended Turkey and Syria trip and it was fantastic.

Family were still pissed and called us irresponsible for taking off for our travels when we had no work and still had a mortgage to maintain at home. We struggled financially for a bit and then our worries ended when he got a job. Six months later he was killed in a car accident on his way home from work.

Family and friends then started saying, "Isn't it lucky you had that trip together? You've now got memories to last a lifetime". Yeah, I have. It was a big trip and a big financial risk. It was a calculated risk and could have ended badly, but didn't. That is one expense I will never regret.

Lesson learned from this: live life as if every day matters the most. Take risks if you have to in order to do the things you enjoy.

She doesn't slobber ;) She's been trained to not put her mouth all over it and to just use the edges of her teeth. There are some things I won't let her touch though (towels, facecloths and tea towels amongst them).

Fast women and slow horses. Not really.

Big, high-qual TV set and good AV receiver and speakers. The two of us spend a reasonable amount of time watching the thing and it's great to have a decent set-up.

Sometimes I just sit and think. Other times I just sit.

These are what I spend money on:

My wife.
My children, and others.They give us a lot more happiness than money does.
Our house.
Power tools - they give me the ability to do stuff.
Solar water heating.
Kitchen appliances and utensils particularly a large breadmaker.
Our cars - If I got what I originally wanted I would be regretting it now. Instead we always end up buying what we need. it just takes me six months to become receptive to the idea that we don't need all the extras.
Helping others e.g. to help friends to get enough deposit to buy their first home.
Giving to charity.
Our insurance broker.
Overseas student exchange trips for our children.
Orthodontists for our kids.

I agree SSD my SSD caused me nothing but problems. Back using conventional HDD's they seem to last longer and more reliable in the long run.

VPN, brought a VPN a few months ago for privacy reasons only to find out that most of them are crap with speed they say they don't limit the speeds but they do.
Tried that brand Astrill good amount of servers to select from but my own connection was more faster then the VPN even with the local servers which the ISP i'm
with is peered with. Used it for about a month then never again. I also heard that the NSA has hacked most of the levels of encryption so if they wanted to get in
they could easy.
