Article on the herald quotes the same guy at the PSA, but paints a very different picture about who he seems to be blaming

http://www.nzherald.co.nz/business/news/article.cfm?c_id=3&objectid=10819276

Stuff article he seems to largely blame funding and therefore staff cuts, but the herald article reads like it was IRDs fault through poor decision making.

ajobbins: Looks like IRD processed my IR3 yesterday! Woohoo!

Does anyone know if they just process the refund to my bank account, or do I have to confirm it with them first? It's been a few years since I've had to do one.

When you completed your IR3, it had the option to either supply a bank account number, or be paid by cheque.  So it will be whichever one you chose.

If in doubt, refer to the printed copy which you are supposed to keep for 7 years ... you did keep a copy didn't you?

Not exactly....I saved it to PDF in my Dropbox.

It doesn't have the refund choice on there, but they have my back account and I recall chosing that option.

Was just wondering if I had to review and confirm the assessment first, or if they just paid out.

Good man, at least you have a copy!

To confirm what will happen, if you login to your IRD Online Services account, you will see there are two options for nominated bank accounts:

1)  For Income Tax Refunds
2)  For Donations Refunds

If it shows your correct bank account details in the first one, the refund will be paid directly into your account, without needing to do anything further.  While you are in there, make sure the account for Donations Refunds is set up correctly too.
